I have been thinking about a rifle build here a lot lately. I want a rifle that will double dudy it self as a 1000 yard rifle and a prairie dog killer-long range-. What would be the best round for me as a double duty rifle chambering? 1000 yard plus long range prairie rat? Lee

After screwing around with many cartridges over the years.The 6-6.5x47lapua wins hands down with high BC bullets.Here's why.
Some cartridges are very accurate(6ppc-6benchrest) but not the greatest for long range because wind becomes a predominent factor.
Others are reasonably accurate,good in the wind but are hard on barrel throats, and shoulders and wallets-243win,6.5-284,7wsm etc.
6x47L, accurate like a 6br.power of the 243win,easy on barrels,low recoil,extremly high quality brass,115bullets .585BC at 3100fps.blows less in the wind than 6.5-284.groups in the 1s and 2s

Use a BR level 'smith and have two barrels fitted. Use the best one for matches and the other one for 'dogs.
