What Rifle, Caliber, Pellet and Muzzle Energy are you using for your Airgun BR Game?

I have a USFT Hunter BR(.22) at 32fpe with 18.1gr Exacts but may set it up at sub 20fpe OR set up another USFT at sub 20fpe...

My local club doesn't have power limits but I do need at sub 20fpe rig set up for BR as well...

Regards,

Tony

Tony,
Just started shooting sub 20 fpe to get a gun or two that will qualify for the Worlds. I changed one of my .22 that shot great at 30+ fpe. At < 20 fpe just so so, over to .20. Will see how that works at our Dec shoot.
Dan with his .177 Indy, David changed from .22 to .177 in his Rapid, Doug shot a Rapid in .22 he set up for 20 fpe.
Our first outdoor match will be in Jan. for World qualifying.

I shoot HV-B class (20fpe) with a Theoben MFR .20 cal, 13.7gr JSB's at 800f/sec.

I've been working on a .177 barrel for the sub 20fpe class. I had thought that time to target was the only consideration influencing wind drift, hence the .177 would have an advantage. I have recently learned that time lag is a more appropriate measure of wind drift. I still can't seem to wrap my head around why this is the case. I may try a .22 barrel with jsb 15 or 18 grainers at the sub 20 setting for comparison soon.

Hi Paul,

Thanks for the feedback! I am hoping my primary USFT BR Rig will be happy at sub20fpe.

If not, I will be testing one of my other USFT Rifles with .17, .20 and a different .22barrel.

Good luck with the testing and qualifying!

Regards,

Tony

Thanks Ammion!

I used to have an MFR(.20) set at sub 20fpe that was very accurate with Exacts.

Appreciate the info.!

Tony

Hi Dan!

Have you found that the Smooth Twist(.22) is not the ticket for sub 20fpe 25m shooting?

Are you experimenting with LW, HW, Polygon or Standard Rifling, choked or unchoked?

Tony

I used the smooth twist for a field target shoot at sub 20fpe. I used the 14g jsbs and the combo worked good.
My current .177 barrel is a LW choked barrel. I have a .177 poly on the way and 5 fast twist rate LWs that should be ready by the end of January. Paul Bendix gave me a barrel a few weeks ago that I'll try soon, it seems to have a tight bore.
I learned that LW can do most barrel configs upon request. If I wanted, say, 3 grooves they could do it, the only problem is that they would have to make a new button and that would cost me $500 extra. The fast twist barrels that I have ordered I'll sell for $180 apiece, unmachined. I was hoping to sell for less but I got stuck with an unexpected $140 setup fee.

Keep me posted on your Fast Twist Barrels, would love to try one!

I have had moments of OMG, This is IT with the Choked Polygon(.17) barrel but not consistent enough to say its The One!

Unchoked Polygon was HORRIBLE!

Is the Tight LW Barrel one of those In the White Blanks that were old stock from the Stirling Rifle Project in the 80's? Is the crown recessed super deep, like 1/4" or more?

Good luck with the barrel testing!

Tony

No and no. I believe it came stock on one of Pauls rapids. I had hopes of it being an HW, but I think it is an LW.
I hope my polygon works out, we'll see.

The Polygons seem to be really hit or miss as to accuracy. Have seen one that was very accurate for FT purposes but that was with the Old JSBH Pellets.

Please post your results with the Polygon when you get a chance.

Tony

When I approached them (LW) some while back, they balked at making barrels over 24" long, and I wanted 27".
