You might want to measure one... I think one that measures .086" would fall into the trigger and be lost... maybe that's where your missing ones are. :D

All my 700 triggers use a 5/32" ball = .156".

Boyd,

Generic balls are usually type 440 stainless and therefore magnetic. You got an old 6x9 carspeaker in the garage? You can sweep a lot of hungry carpet with one of those and might recover detritus from some earlier adventure as well. Might save you a trip.

Thanks guys. I believe that a local hardware store may have what I need. As it happens I don't have an old car speaker, and since the hungry piece of carpet is near my computer, I think that I will hold off on constructing a super electromagnet.

A few years ago I bought an assortment of balls from Brownell's. It has been really handy over the years... Much easier to replace one than try and find it in my shop...

You are correct..5/32"..(.186")...I just knew it ended with a "SIX".:D:D

A local gunsmith here told me he uses just plain old steel shot from shotshells to replace the ball in Remington triggers. Mine was very stiff and he replaced the ball with a slightly smaller one and made the function of the safety much better. I have no idea what size he used though.

Looks like the common BB (.177 cal) would be a reasonable substitute.

Thanks Guys,

I found exactly what I need at a local hardware store (I made a call.), quite a good one. When I get over there, they will cost me 16 cents each. I think that I will buy a dozen. Thanks for all of the help.

Magnet sweeper

I bought a magnet sweeper (less than $10.00) it is about a foot wide with roller wheels on the ends and push broom like handle. It has been worth its weight in gold over the years.

put a plastic bag over any magnet then once you pick up what you lost you can pull the bag off and your parts will be in the bag.
