Any new records?
How did you run the format?
Did Lou show up with a 80X March scope?
How was the wind and the mirage?
Inquiring minds want to know.

Well...

It was a good day for shooting, Lynn.

My understanding is that Don and Lou were shooting short range at Visalia. They were missed.

I don't have the scores in front of me, so, going from my failing memeory...

The turnout was light, which allowed us to shoot only two relays, each six five shot light gun targets.

The day was a little overcast, with a brief appearance from the sun during the first relay, which may have complicated things for them.

Conditions--virtually no wind--held until the last target of the second relay.

Leroy Johnson was there, as well as John Adams from Pala.

John Crawford's rifles were accurate as ever, even in the hands of his guest, Leslie, who shot at least one extremely small group.

I believe Barry shot very well, and will be near the top in the results.

As to records, we don't know.

I'm not entirely comfortable discussing this in public, as I don't want to put any additional pressure on the talented men that make these tough decisions.

Barry's targets may be on their way for confirmation, I don't know, but I know mine will be.

I shot second relay, 6X47 Lapua, Barnard action, Bartlein barrel, and managed some good scores and reasonable groups. Most of my groups were 2.xxx, but I farmed the last target with a 4.xxx.

So the group records are in no danger from me.

I did, however, manage a string of high scores, mainly 50s, 49s, and 48s, to shoot a 289 out of 300 if my math is correct.

Which was marred only by a crossfire on target number 2.

My understanding is that my scores will not apply to the existing six target light gun record, as that record applies to scores shot over three days, only at the Nationals I presume.

It is also my understanding that I may have a chance at the three target light gun score record, presuming everything pans out in my favor in the crossfire issue.

Now... it is not entirely clear to me whether this record is limited to the first three targets and then the second three targets, but it does seem to me that if the best three targets are chosen out of the six targets shot, excluding the crossfire target, the crossfire issue can be avoided, as I shot a bunch of good targets.

I believe.

It is very important to me to add that it is not my intent at all to influence those that make these tough decisions.

I'll be more than happy to abide by their decision.

Gratefully.

To me, it was just the usual day at Ojai, trying to remember to check the parallax, maintain good sight picture, and, well, trigger control.

All of this does, though, Lynn, confirm that Ojai is a great range to shoot.

I just got a score sheet from your match.I don't think the Pumpkin and Lou Murdica were in Visalia I think they were hiding from Leslie!!
If I understood the e-mail correctly the only gun she has ever shot was a pistol in high school before that match.
She shot the smallest group of the match she shot a perfect 50 she placed in every category except one and she beat the existing 3 target score record to boot!!!!! She did all of that on her first match ever with a borrowed gun from John Crawfords collection out of the box unsorted Berger bullets and a melonited barrel in 6 Grendel!!!
I think I gotta meet this lady and I hope she can't make it to the Nationals.I just hate to see grown men cry.

I did see your results as well and it appears you beat the score record by 2 points.I didn't see anything about a crossfire but if all the other targets had 5 shots on them they would score your five worst score shots and your five worst group shots.Don't quote me on that it is only my best guess.
Regardless of the outcome you shot fantastic my friend and congratulations are in order!!!

New Record !!!

wellllll ....records were made to be broken....grin....Hi Bruce ...If your targets hold up...CONGRATULATIONS ,YOU deserve it.......it is a good feeling ,,,enjoy every minit of it...Roger

The extra shot is disregarded if it can be determined
that the 11th shot should have been fired on the target with only
9 shots. If the Pit Chairman is unable to determine where the
11th shot came from, the shooter with the 11 shots has the
choice of accepting the group for 11 shots or to shoot over.
The shooter is not notified of the size of the 11-shot group or
his total score until after he/she has made his/her choice. If
the shooter elects to re-fire the record string, he/she will re-fire
before the next scheduled relay begins.
{{in the case of five shot targets (LG) it is refering to the 6th shot,,not the 11th....}}

Is this how the crossfire was eliminated?? ...

The Expiper got that record from my father and now it looks like it is coming back to caleeeefornia.
I wasn't looking at all pages of the e-mail but now that I did it looks like your in solid even with the crossfire. You would still end up with a 146 if they threw away the best shot.BRXlefty let me know about the other pages.

After looking over all 3 pages it looks like you guys had some good weather down there.Anytime you can shoot 6 targets at 2 inches your doing something right.Congratulations!!

Hey Expiper send me your mailing address and I'll get your bullets in the mail before I go blind and can't read or write anymore.:cool:I will know friday exactly what is wrong and what they plan on doing about it.
Update---I have bulging retinas due to excessive stress not wet macular degeneration. It looks like I will be wearing an eye patch at the nationals.

New Record

The new NBRSA 600 Yard Three Target Light Gun Score Record is in the book, Lynn-

146

It's not something I though much about--a record--although a couple of years ago, when Barry and I were load testing on a crisp winter morning, he did mention something about "World Records".

It gives me no great pleasure to displace Roger, who was so gracious in offering his congratulations.

I would like to see a little credit go to:

Barnard Precision, down in New Zealand. These actions are pretty much the standard by which all others are judged in Palma shooting, they took first and third place in the recent F-Open Class Nationals at Sacramento, and... I'd like to see more NBRSA shooters using them.

Paul Edgar, who fit the barrel at our shop, MT Guns.

Frank Green and Tracey Bartlein at Bartlein Barrels.

Bill Shehane, whose MBR Tracker I used.

The gang at Berger Bullets.

Sightron: I've never been able to afford a NightForce, and I really like the SIII 8-32x56 I have on this rifle.

And I'm really sold on the 6x47 Lapua chambering, Lynn. This rifle shot back to back 1.5xx" groups in a monthly Ojai match last year, so it's always been accurate.

Overall, the real issue is the shooting conditions at Ojai.

We've been scoffed at, but this new record is as much a reflection of good conditions as my shooting.

As of this writing, we haven't scheduled our next NBRSA match: Barry Bluhm, the Match Director, has conflicts for his time for much of his busy summer.

But we've been looking at dates, and hopefully be able to announce something in the near future.

Congratulations on your new record!!!!
Don't worry about "The Expiper" he got that record from my father an has been shooting for 30 years so he knows some of them don't last all that long before they get bested.
You and Barry certainly have those 6x47's shooting with the best of them.I don't know what it is but Ojai seems to be tucked away in a little honey hole made just for shooting. When Barry gets the next date I'll put in for a couple days off and see if I can make it down there.
Again Congrats on your new Record you earned it.

what is your schedule at Ojai..??

I hope to be out west this summer and "just might" bring along one of my "squirrel" rifles and limber up for the fun of it!!hahah....
Congratulations agin Bruce...you shot well and deserve it....I was at the short range Nats a cupla yrs ago and Skip Otto remarked to me that he had just shot better than the Nat. Record in Unlimited ---and guesss what ---he was in 10th place at the end of the day..!!!!!...
Im not throwing my BR's over the hill just yet...grin...the great people that we shoot with are what matters and make the sport what it is....Roger
