What front rest do you use.

I am in the market for a really nice front rest. Doing a google search just doesn't bring up all the options. I have seen the rest on Sinclair Int but I know I'm missing some. I shot a 250 on my Caldwell Rock and a rounded off Caldwell rear bag today on an RBA target but it's the first one ever and my x count was really low. 250-4x The rock is a pain with no windage. Has anyone used the JJ industries? I would really appreciate any help guys as I am new to this game and only had my gun for about a month. What rest are out there that I don't know about. This rest will be primarily used for rimfire 50 yard and meter contest but I may at some point want to do some centerfire. My gun is a 10 & half # class and I'll be shooting the ARA , 50/50 and RBA games. My hope is to find out all the front rest makers and their distributers to try and make a decision. Hope everyone is having a good weekend, thanks again.

18 views and nobody uses a benchrest? Thanks for the help I guess:cool:

Looks like you might get more response on the rimfire benchrest forum.

I know in ARA a lot of folks shot one piece rests and it has been ages since I shot rimfire so I am unsure of current rules for IR 50/50 and RBA.

I can say the Farley rest is found on a lot of benches at centerfire matches and works great in traversing targets. It is an excellent piece of equipment.

There are too many different rests availible for any one person to have the complete answer. However, for what it is worth, I have two Caldwell Rock rests, one is the BR competition, the other the Rock deluxe. However, my favorite rest when shooting unlimited class is the Von Ahrens one piece rest, it is a pure joy to use. But not all competitions allow the use of a one piece rest and so I use the Caldwell Rock BR competition rest with a Scott "Fudd" Hamilton windage top on it when I need a two piece rest set up. The Fudd windage top on the Rock BR base is a very popular combination in this neck of the woods...

After much research on the subject of rests and deciding on the Von Ahrens rest, I decided someday, if I find the extra cash, I would be happy to replace my older Caldwell Rock Deluxe rest with one of Ken Fulgham's front rests. I shoot with a fellow that uses one one of Ken Fulgham's masterpieces and its head and shoulders above all the other front rests used at our matches. If I were to have one rest only, there is no doubt in my mind it would be the Fulgham front rest...

Happy Shooting,
Mitch & Shadow...

Thanks guys that's the info I was looking for. I had never heard of any of the rest you guys had mentioned. I wasn't trying to be a smart ass but I was starting to think there weren't any actual shooters on this forum.;)

Deadasslast2004 that looks like a really nice rest. It's unlike the others out there. Has it stayed tight over the years. No wobble from the windage top to the gear post?

The JJ Industries rest is an overkill for what you're doing! It's a beautiful well made rest and the people there are excellent to work with. I own one and love it.
Good Luck

vinny,
Why would the JJ Industries rest be overkill for what he's doing? I know a few folks who use them in rimfire BR. Do you shoot rimfire BR?

Just seems that a $800+ rest is a allot of money for a 10# rifle to be used at 50 yards. Didn't mean to sound condescending or arrogant just giving my opinion. I don't shoot Rimfire BR, actually I've never seen a Rimfire BR rifle but I do appreciate your taking interest in which BR sport I shoot, thanks:).

Food for thought - rests...

In the group of fellows that shoot in matches at the local club, there are Von Ahrens rests, Pappas Rests, a Ken Fulgham rest and a number of the Caldwell Rock BR Competition rest bases with Fudd windage tops.

What is interesting to note is that one of these shooters holds a number of world records with two more possible world records (that I know of) presently pending official certification. He shoots with a Caldwell Rock BR with a Fudd Windage top...

Goes to show its not the rest or how much you spend for it that wins the competitions but more the skill of the shooter behind the trigger of a good gun....
