What do you think about a 3 groove 6ppc barrel

Has already been done but the barrel maker does not make them anymore. Ihad one and it really shot.

I have had nothing but great luck with Benchmark barrels and they offer a 3 groove 6mm 14 twist barrel. they also offer the same barrel in a 6 groove. The sure make a lot of 3 groove barrels over there at Benchmark and they sure seem to shoot well. I have had a couple now in 6mm 8 twist and they hammer. To be quite honest i havent ever heard anyone say that they had a bad benchmark barrel. I kinda like the idea of trying one for a 6ppc, and i just might. Now i need to decide if i go 3 or 6 grooves?? Hmm???? Lee

I bought some Hart 3-grooves a few years ago. Shot good with 750 jacket bullets, were a 15.5 twist. I used Watson 750/65's in them.

Groove configuration and number of grooves don't seem to really matter in the 100/200 game that I can tell. I've shot 3's. 4's, 5's, 6's and 8's. All could win with the right gunsmithing and handling. Probably best to get one brand and twist and stay with it if you want to win.

Probably pretty sound advice!! thanks for sharing.

Jerry, why the 15.5 twist? just curious?? Lee

The 15.5 was a Hart, they made some 15 and a few 15.5 (or they came out that way). It is believed by some that a just barely stabilized bullet is the most accurate. The trouble is a just barely stabilized bullet is atmospheric condition dependent. While the 15.5 shot great at 100 it wasn't that good at 200 because it was falling below its stability threshold.

Or you could shoot 62-grain Fowlers (.750 jacket, weren't they?). Some people aren't smart enough to come in out of the cold.

The event was the Super Shoot and Ed Watsons store was on the way back to my camper. I've never shot any Fowlers on a 750 jacket, never ever seed airy.
(Seed airy?? Ain't airy, izzier?)

Charles, a cold turkey to you too. Nah, a happy hot turkey to you...thats not right either!!

Happy and peaceful Thanksgiving.
