What about a Daisy Avanti

Do you guys think that just as an interim air rifle a single stroke Avanti would be a mid pack BR contender? Obviously having to pick it up and pump each shot would be fatal for a high end score, but I guess what I'm asking is, is it ridiculous to consider even trying? Perhaps just practice with this unit until I can get something more appropriate? Thanks, GG

If you hve one, shoot it in the match class. It only makes about 4 fpe, 450fps with match pellets so you are outgunned but any shooting is good shooting.

Sherdian Spring rifle coming to our Match Saturday

Any rifle is better than "no" rifle. You might be surprised to see that that rifle might shoot better than you think.

I have an old, and I really mean old Crossman pump up rifle that is still pretty fun to shoot. Now I have to admitt pumping it 7 times between shots is a real pain in the butt but it will consistently nail a rat in the barn without shooting through the roof when I miss. Lately with the degradation of my eyesight I have had to switch to body shots vs head shots, can't manage those leaf sights very well.

Man oh man KingSnake, you make yourself sound old! You aint old!!! Heck you still a young man by some standards, like mine.

Well good. With that encouragement I'm going to pursue getting some air BR Matches going.

This Avanti has a built in dovetail on the receiver for scope mount/rings. What power scopes are you using? I have a couple of 36X (Lue/Sightron) not attached to a rifle if that is the preferred mag power.

Kingsnake, have you put together a package with rules and forms and stuff for joining the Air BR and putting on a Sanctioned match? I have been Match Director for RBA so am not totally green. Perhaps I can get what I need from the website?

Thank you.

Well,..........rat poop!

When I built our range out here and contacted RBA they sent me a package with forms for keeping score, and a computer program to make it easy. When Mike wanted to shoot ARA, they sent him the same kind of stuff.

Do you guys not have this stuff? Do I need to get the vitals from your web site?

Answer would be appreciated very much. Thank you.

John,

Who did you contact for Airgun Benchrest information? As administrator of the website, I have not received any email from you via the website. If you sent one, I need to find out why it wasn't delivered.

There is no scoring program, but Doug's program can be used with a little imagination. Of course a pencil, piece of paper, and a calculator are okay too.:D

All the rules and sanctioning information are on the Airgun Benchrest website. Click on this link for the order Form.

We put all the info on the website to make it easy for anyone to access and submit a club's information for sanctioning.

If you need more information, send me an email and I'll try to get it to you.

Gary

Gary, did not email the site, so there's nothing wrong with your email.

Thank you for the reply and setting me straight on how to proceed. Will check it out as soon as time permits. I have at least 4 shooters ready to go as soon as we get sanctioned.

Thanks again, John

Hello Gordon

Just thought I would touch base with you. I'll be glad to assist you in any way. Feel free to call me if you have any question. I pretty much check the forum every day Mon through Friday unless I'm traveling .
I can be reached a 334-287-3527 almost every week day between 0630 -4:00pm

As for scoring program, Most of us have been using the IR50-50 Unlimited Program that Doug Weeter wrote.
It can easily be modified for our airgun shooting. If you need me to, I'll be glad to send a copy customized with your range information on it.

Looking forward to seeing your sanction paperwork. Will get your targets on the way as soon as I have your range information.

Thanks a lot. I'm going under the knife next Thursday with an anticipated 3 week downtime/4-6 month rehab (shoulder) so will have plenty of time to download the paperwork.

If there is a licensing fee for Dougs' program please let me know, but that would be awesome if you could send me a personalized copy!

Regards, John Harris

John,

Good luck with your surgery! I'm looking forward to having both knees replaced sometime after the shooting season's over, if I can wait that long, then doing a right side rotator cuff repair, plus having a total shoulder clean-out while they're in there anyway sometime down the road. Aint life a blast!

Keep us informed,

Dave

Checks in the mail. :) I'll follow with dates and maybe a more clever name than just 'San Diego'.

Getting that same feeling Todd described, when it all was new and we were figuring out how to shoot in Joe Hallers email matches.

Good stuff!

Had the surgery on May 1st and I'm starting to feel better. Will have to be in a sling for 7 weeks and then another 3 to 6 months physical torture, errrrr, therapy.

Turns out that the biceps tendon was ripped in half and there was also damage to rotator cuff muscles. They took out one half of the bicep tendon and pushed a metal cylindrical tube with barbs on the inside over the end of the tendon, and then attached a wire to the metal thing and ran it up to where the tendon was originally afixed. They drilled a hole in the bone and then screwed the wire down. Also fixed the damage to rotator cuff that consisted of small tears with tattered and frayed muscle fiber, and did general clean up removing bone spurs and stuff.

Gonna try to shoot this weekend with my sons help. We shall see.

Thanks for asking, GG :)

I wrote Scoring Programs for IR50/50 RBA - ARA - and IBS Scores.
I have never charge a cent for them - I figured my payback is all the friends I have made in benchrest shooting!
If someone gives me a rough Idea on how you score Airgun I can probably tailor one of my programs to suit your needs if Kingsnake has not already done it?
I have just finished up a project so now my Programs will print a nice award for the winners. If you haven't play with that then you should the clubs that have tried it so far really like it.
Anyone interested in my programs can go to my website and download them.

Wow Doug, that is awesome. If you could touch base with Kingsnake I believe he has already written come code to customize the program for Airgun. If the two of you put heads together, I'm guessing the result would be killer.

Thanks a bunch, John Harris
