Weber actions

Does anyone have any information on Weber actions, what they were like, number made different models, when they were in production etc.

I have seen a couple of photos with one action being about the length of a Panda maybe and the other being probably twice as long.

Thanks in advance for any information.

Ian;
I'd email Bob White at Shooters Corner. They are a BRC advertiser. Bob has a lot of info regarding vintage Benchrest rifles and will have a Weber based rifle in stock from time to time.

Good luck;

Thanks for the reply Mike I will email Bob and ask him.

I found a couple of old BR rifles on Gunbroker.....one in 222 the other in 219 Don Wasp and both use the Weber action.

Ian:

There was a post about a year ago on BRC or 6mmBR website. The thread went on for several days. If I remember correctly the history of Webber actions and another offshoot action was discussed. You might could do some archive research and find more information. Hope all is well in the lower half of the world. I still want to come to New Zealand.

Dave Brennan did a series of artcles about old Benchrest actions some years ago and included the Weber. If you have access to about 20 years of PS to research, it would be there. I had the opportunity to handle a Weber within the past year and it was very impressive. It would sell well today, especially for prone Highpower and F-Class. I saw the rifles you mentioned on Gunbroker (3 of them) and if I had the money, I would buy all three at that price, with no hesitation - unfortunately, I don't have the money! :(

Webers were made in several lengths and diameters. The true Unlimited BR action is 14" long and 2" in diameter. I have an unfinished receiver given to me by the late Allen Bench of those dimensions. With a couple of exceptions, that was the most commonly seen version up here in the NW during Weber hay-days.

Stu Harvey, in Sac., CA. probably knows more about them than anyone.

I just purchased one of the listed Weber action custom rifles on Gunbroker. I'm rather sure that it has a .222 Rem chamber- and I am getting Ceralloy chamber cast when it arrives. The other listed rifle in .219 Donaldson Wasp seemed rather interesting.

Now I just need to decide on a decent scope for when it arrives.

We'll see how it fares at the local range and prairie dog towns.
