I have a Weatherby Mark V in 30/378. I really like the rifle for hunting but as I age, I am finding that I am tired of being pounded by the caliber. Is there anything that can be done to make the bolt head a a smaller diameter to be able to rebarrel the rifle to a more reasonable caliber? I would love to rebarrel it to a 280AI but need your expertise if this can be done.

Thanks to all that respond.:D

The bolt face can be altered smaller... but making it feed may be a bigger problem... possibly a magazine box and follower for a 30-06 would be enough... I don't know...

Bottom metal, box spring and follower can be changed out fairly easy. My concern is the bolt head diameter, and extractor function. I have checked by 257 bolt against the 30/378. Diameter of the bolt itself is the same but bolt cam and locking lug placement is totally different.
