Warner inserts

What speed and feed are you guys running Warner's HSS inserts when cutting stainless barrels.

I'm reducing the diameter of the barrel shank from 1.250" to 1.125" and was having trouble with build up an my cutting edge. I'm using an dark sulfur base cutting fluid.

I was getting a decent finish but every inch or so I would get a shallow grove.

I run at 60sfm to get the best surface finish. When I ran at 120sfm I had to keep removing BUE on the insert. When I slowed down the problem went away. Boe

Use a good cutting oil to avoid the BUE. I like dark sulfur oil mixed with 10% Tap-Magic. Lard Oil or bacon grease works well also.

I had that issue myself. I thought it might be the ridgitity, or lack there of, of my lathe? I was using a carbide incert. Kennametal. Lee
