I am tired of looking for a Rem. 700 in 223.

Can I take a reciever with a .473 bolt head, remove and replace
with a 223 bolt head ?

...... Then proceed to thread and chamber a barrel ?

Regards

30 miles south of Roanoke. The gun is to make a XTC tube gun.
PTG is good, but, I can do most of that work , Too.

Any body know if I can Just swap ? I'll be re-barreling.

The factory magazine wont feed... but you didn't ask that...

the bolt swap and a barrel will work

don't screw the present bolt up...

I am building a magazine to feed 223 in a single stack.

Why not screw up the present bolt ( whatever that means ) due to re-sale value ?

Prolly will gift it to someone who screws up thier Sako extractor bolt mess.........

But thanks Alinwa, and Dennis.

Some would think ,if you are changing over to a Sako type extractor you should be able to install a 223 bolt face bushing at the same time. A bushing is added to the bolt face when cleaning up the Rem extractor recess , as part of the Sako extractor installation process. This presents the opportunity to select the size of bolt face you require. However there are inherent safety issues with the Sako extractor installation on Rem 700 bolts ,that must be taken into consideration before undertaking this modification . See thread " Does this Sako extractor installation on the 700 look like it is done correctly?" After reading the article I would not install or use a Sako type extractor on a Rem 700.

A new bolt from Pacific Tool and Gage is a practical option which allow for oversize diameter , spirals etc.
You have lots of options with a new bolt.
