Vibration after loading Ans 54

After reading the post of the Wierd harmonic after firing...it reminded me of my Anschutz 54 rifle that has an oscillation in it when you close the bolt.

It is an Ans 54 in a McMillan fiberglass stock with pillars and bedded with the action only and the bedding is good. it has a smaller diamater custom barrel (threaded)with a tuner on the end and vibration control in the middle and a Weaver T-36 scope. Also using a 1 piece rest.

If you are on a run trying to get shots off, if you are loading and close the bolt then immediately look through the scope you will see the crosshairs vibrating and then settle down. But if you are in a hurry sometimes it is a little bit annoying to wait. It shoots good, none the less. I have talked to a handfull of folks who have exactly the same thing with thiers.

Just wondering if some of you have experienced this..... if you figured out what caused it.... and if so, what if anything you did to fix it.

I think it is some combination of flexibility in the stock and or the action.

Charlie:

I have a Turbo action with a Border barrel, Hoehn tuner, McMillan stock and Kelbly trigger. Built up by Butch Hongisto. My best score ever on the USBR target was shot with that rifle. But: That Border barrel vibrates with a high amplitude when the bolt is closed. High amplitude? It's easy to see and looks like a full 1/4 inch.

I been using a Fudd front rest and a rabbit ear rear rest. Was thinking it might be the Kelbly trigger, but don't suppose you have a Kelbly on that Anschutz.

No, Your assumption is right Joe...Anschutz 5071 trigger in a 69 vintage action. Did the same thing also with the Lilja barrel on it before.

Joe...

My gun is just like yours except I have a Jewell, and also vibrates a lot when it hits the forward stop on my Farley. It took me a while to learn why it would throw shots high when I hurried. I changed my grip so that my thumb is on the bottom of the stock(which puts my finger tips on the barrel) when I push it forward in the bags. My fingers dampen the vibration out pretty quickly...less than a second.
