I have a set of redding 6BR dies, I just acquired a rifle in .243, I am going to rebarrel soon, but before I do that I want to load some 243 plinking ammo. since 243 has longer case, is that possible to use the neck sizing die and bullet seater?

thanks

I would give this process a weak maybe. Has the brass been fired in the subject rifle?? If so it MAY be able to be fired again. The downside here is that the web area of the case will receive no sizing from the BR length sizer. The necks should be OK and maybe the shoulder;maybe. At some point in time the web will need to be sized or the brass won't chamber. If you intend to fire the brass more than once in this rifle I'd pop for a sizer. Be sure the extraction cam area of the bolt and receiver are well greased. If it sticks, don't pound on the bolt handle to open the action.

I will buy some winchester hunting ammo, then fire in the gun, I won't reload too many times, so I think I can get away with neck size only. thanks, I will give it a try.
