Pictured below is my Tincan shooter. It is a 40XR with the rear tang welded up, Kiff bolt, 3POS safety, Shilen trigger, and Shilen barrel. Kerry Stottlemyer did the metal work including the custom scope bases. Richard Gorham chambered the barrel. It is at the stockmakers now getting a walnut stock built for it.

I believe all the tincans better hide when it is finished.

Some investment for a tincan shooter. I sure hope those cans appreciate it when its finished.

Roger and Hambone,
This is my 4th try at posting. For some reason the forum has not let me.
The safety is a Dave Kiff Remington.
Hambone, I don't like ugly rifles but have a few. I use them all, no safe queens.

Only thing worse than an ugly rifle in your hands........................................ is an ugly woman.

Which reminds me of a story. I'll be quick!

I was away working and had stopped at a bar with some work colleagues off the project. When a guy came in with a woman who had a face that look like a bulldog chewing a wasp. Real ugly and real mean.
My co -worker casually remarked that if he had brought a dog at last he'd make sure that it had 4 legs. That throw away remark was over heard and you can guess the rest. I still have the scar from a stilletto heel in my calf. .......................Damn those women fought dirty!

Butch, ......... what do you think it will weigh when it's done?
Thanks, douglas

Yeah the question is what kind of stock are you putting on it?

Evan,
It will be a classic stock design with a cheek piece. It will be from American Black Walnut with an ebony tip. Because of the wood stock I hope it is 7 1/2 lbs or less with the scope. I failed to weigh the barreled action before sending it to the stockmaker.

Rexaroonie,
It is CM as is the barrel. The only stainless to it is the Shilen trigger. The stockmaker just emailed and said it would weigh 7.75lbs without the scope and rings. I'm glad this old man has a gun bearer.

Sure looks good Butch. Your grandson will be able to carry it with no problem.

Did finish shooting all the Russian Olimp-R you had at those tin can?

Tin cans don't taste too bad but you gotta know how to clean them, i hear there are some sent glands you got to cut around... joe! :D

Butch,
Must be a heavy piece of wood to be 7-3/4 lbs without the scope. Here is my tin can shooter 40x comes in at 8lbs 7ozs.
Lilja #5 fluted barrel 23" long, Maple Pharr Rt/s stock, Jewell 2# trigger with bottom safety.
Please post pictures when you are done.

Butch,

I know what you mean, this was built as a smallbore Silhouette rifle. Like you I would go with a more classic style stock on something else. My Rifle was built by Mark Pharr out of Round Rock, TX. Very good smith a heck of a shooter, he won the National High Power Hunting Rifle silhouette championship this year.
