Hello to all and would like to say that although this my first post I have enjoyed reading the various threads
occasionally for some time. Many very informative.
I have always enjoyed shooting different bench and varmint rifles I have built over the years.
On 3 of these I have the older external adjustment
Unertls.
I have always been curious as to the year of manufacture of these.
All were bought used so I dont have a clue . all have a serial number and wondered if there were any records kept?
Thank you for the forum and time to speak.

Ron,
I`ve paid particular attention to any posts regarding Unertl scopes the past few years and have found no such source. I have but one left, #46039, a 1-1/2-16X. When I moved back home in the late 80`s, my first two "chuck" rifles were on M98 Mausers in 22.250, quite the load to carry from one large hayfield to the next.

Short of someone having a dated receipt from Unertl with serial number included, if they did that sort of thing back then, the info you seek does not exist.

I did find one of their handbooks (East Street address) with the seperate pricelist but no dates shown. The pricelist shows my 16X target scope at the time was $105.00 :D

Here's a start for your research.

A May 1,1984 factory catalog shows an 1 1/2" Target at $250.

My 1 1/2" Target, delivered in '86 I believe, is #7939X. New Unertls were very difficult to get at that time.

Good shooting!:D

Thank Scott and Wapiti,
That is a start, any pictures of that 98 with the Unertl on top?
Mine are FNs , always like to see FN varmint rigs.

There is a Yahoo Group dedicated to Unertl scopes. Members there will have the information you seek.
