UBR TN State Championship

I noticed Danny's thread on the Lambert's Run UBR match and thought it might be a good idea to mention the TN State Championship. It will be held this Saturday, August 4th at the Gallatin Gun Club. We had a great match last month with 28 guns contesting and are expecting similar this time with hopefully, slightly cooler temps.

The safety meeting will be held at 9:00 CST and we will start with the 200 yd match. There will be special TN orange trophy plaques for 1st place in all classes (Factory, Modified, Custom & Unlimited) including the Grand Agg, 100 yd & 200 yd. There will be certificates for 2nd & 3rd place. Match fees are $30 for the 1st rifle and $20 for the 2nd. Lunch (smoked chicken, potato salad, baked beans) and drinks is included in the match fee. We also have at least two door prizes from vendors, 1000 benchrest primers from The Reloaders Bench in Mt Juliet TN and 100 match Hillbilly Bullets of your choice from Larry Moore.

We have ordered up some extra special mirage and switchy, gusting winds for your shooting pleasure;) Come shoot with us. If you need directions or other information, email or call me.

We have some additions to our door prizes. Mike Ezell of Guns & Gunsmithing is giving a $100 discount on a set of 4 of his NEON WIND FLAGS. That's a helluvadeal. If I didn't already have a set of 8 flags I would definitely be lining up for the NEON flags. They are the best I've seen. I may even have to sell mine and get a new batch. maybe I can rig the drawing.

Also, the Blue Line Gun Store in Gallatin TN has added 1 lb of powder, your choice to the list. So, we have bullets, powder, primers and flags, almost enough to go shooting. See y'all there.

I hear you had a good attendance, good for you. Did you have enough SMOKED chicken? And you usually have the results posted by now, old age catching up?;)

It was a good day @ Gallatin Saturday. We had the highest # of guns competing since we started shooting benchrest matches again a few years ago. If my count is correct, we had 32 shooters and 40 guns. The day started warm and humid with the switchy, gusting winds that Gallatin is known for.

We shot 200 yards first and while the scores weren't record setting, it was clear that a few had figured them out. When we moved in to 100 yards and broke for lunch we had a downpour that gave us time to eat. Later in the afternoon around mid-match a second stronger storm moved through and brought things to a halt for a while. The only serious casualties were the targets, which could not be hung after scoring because they fell apart. Scoring itself was a challenge as well, but we managed.

Danny Hensley took all the marbles back to Virginia in both Factory Class and Custom GA, although James Parham won at 100. 5 Shooters shot the same top score (255) @ 100 yds in Custom Class and had to be sorted out by the Creedmore rules. Ron Jackson took everything in Unlimited and Alvin Sears won it all in Modified.

Thanks to everyone who joined us for the day. We will try it again on September 1st. Also, the next match in our area will be at the Red River Rifle Range on August 18 and the next UBR match will be held at BGSL in Wilmore KY on Sunday August 12. See the Ultimatebenchrest.com site for directions and details. The full match results should be there in a day or two.

Hey Dan,
Yes, we had a great turnout, wish you could have been here. Yes as well to the smoked chicken:D along with potato salad and baked beans. I can't take responsibility for posting results anymore. Danny takes care of the UBR website. All I do is send him the results, which I have done. To be fair to him, he probably didn't get home 'til very late last night and I doubt he'll get the results posted for a day or two.

Come see us,
Rick

looks like a great turnout Rick. UBR is definitely alive and well in Gallatin. must have been some tough competition, too. The match in Wilmore next Sunday is for the Kentucky State Championship and we'll be awarding trophies for first place in all aggs and classes. certificates for second and third. Hope to see everyone there.

I'm told this range use to host some of the Speer Bullet group matches back in the 70's, before a long hiatus from benchrest matches, until a few years ago. Rick and Ron have done a commendable job of bringing benchrest back to this historic facility...and it's doing well again.
