There was an Ultimate Benchrest match shot yesterday at the Red Brush Rifle Range in Newburgh Indiana. We had a good turnout with nineteen rifles competing in all four classes. The weather was the big winner for the day. We started the match with the temp just above 40º, light rain and gusting wind at the back of our necks. The wind was constant from 9-16 mph all day. I don't recall ever seeing a lull. Sometimes it would slacken slightly only to come back with gusts that went to around 30 mph according to the Weather Channel. Even with these conditions there were five scores of 500 or better. This equaled what we had at Dry Branch on April 6th with much lighter winds and more than twice as many rifles. There was some very fine shooting yesterday. Murray Gilbert shot a 261 at 100 and would have probably won the 200 and the Grand except for one of those freak 30 mph gusts that too him all the way to the five ring @ 200 on one shot. Joey Gregory continued to excel with the best overall grand and he was competing in Modified Class. Mike Shubert, a new competitor placed 2nd @ 100 and 3rd in the Grand with a 500. He will be a force to be reckoned with.

Chester and his crew put on a fine well run match, possibly the smoothest in our region. If you are within driving distance of Newburgh Indiana on the 3rd Saturday of the month and want to try UBR or a a regular looking for a place to shoot, be sure and show up at the Red Brush Rifle Range. You won't be sorry.
