Where does a beginner go to acquire a tuner for a .22lr benchrest rifle? I'm having no luck with the classifieds here, nor with ebay, nor with google.

Dan Killough (Killough Shooting Sports) and Charlie Scott have them in stock.

As Don stated give Dan a Call 325-212-0807. He'll give you the directions to measure your barrel and his prices are some of the best.

Plus he's a nice guy sometimes :D

Not available online?

I know this is probably a generational difference, but I'm really surprised that these products are not shown on and sold by web sites.

Just the nature of the business to some degree. This is a very small specialized market segment and a lot of the products are small businesses turning out a small # of items for the market. As stated above go to Dan's site and he'll take care of you. He's got the tuners listed plus the best prices on target scopes and elay ammo. As most in this business he's fair, honest plus has a nice range at the hacienda that one can shoot at.

Thank you for the links, phone numbers, and photos.

Dumb question, part 2: How does one select a tuner for a new rifle? Which brand/model?

I would say that it's about testing. any good barrel tuner well fitted will do the job, maybe having one that you can add weight to is one to go for. As regards testing you have to have plenty of ammo. What I normally do is shoot 5 shots per a full revolution, once I've gone through all revolutions I pick the best 3 then re-shoot 5 shots at each and then choose the best. Any barrel tuner you have, you need to do plenty of testing to find the sweet spot.

Rock63:

Once you get a tuner, you can tune your rifle with two boxes of shells, by using "The Hopewell Method". If you want, I can e-mail you a copy of "The Hopewell Method". Just send me your e-mail address. My e-mail is dsnaphoto@aol.com
