Tuner Function

Ive never claimed to be a rocket scientist ( or gun scientist) BUT Everything I read about a tuner is that it tunes a bbl. to a CERTAIN LOT of ammo. WELLLLLL if thats so why does my ANSCHUTZ w/hoen tuner Always want the #5 setting with virtually anything I shoot in it?Could it be the tuner is too light & needs more weight , Mines the one without additional weight accomodations but heck thats easily fixed( I am that smart) would some of you more advanced shooters chime in PLEASE in an understandable way.

I think the latest thinking in tuner theory is set it and forget it. Of course, that could be likely to change. And more weight is better unless a lighter tuner provides an advantage. The one thing we do know is that you must have one unless, of course, a lack of one would provide a greater degree of precision. Hope this helps.

That explains how the tuner works. Now if you take a different lot of ammo or even a different brand and use powder that burns at the same or very near same rate with bullets with very similar dynamics it could be very easy to see a bunch of different ammo shoot to the same setting on the tuner. In fact I would be inclined to think that most good .22lr ammo is pushed with close to the same rates with bullets of similar design. A little luck and boom a bunch of ammo shoots good at the same setting. I would think, though have no experience, that most good ammo would shoot best on close to the same tuner setting though anything from lot to lot variations or even environmental changes could throw the tuner off by a large margin so no bets on it always running at that same #5 setting even with ammo from the same lot.
