tube guns?

dumb question... i don't really know what they are, or what they are used for? does a regular bolt action (like a rem 700) fit inside of the steel tube? and the steel tube has a rail for the optics and a stock attachment mechanism like an ar-style gun? is this the gist of it? what's their purpose?

Very good information.

There needs to be some clarifacation,Tube guns originated as both long range prone guns and cross the course guns. They shoot so well that they have been adapted into other applications, Tactical and even benchrest. Gary Elesio has been very active in making them in a variety of bright colors so they don't get confused with the Black ARs and even David Tubbs rifle.

I have put together several of Gary Elesio's stocks on Remingtons, Custom Clones, and the Savage Target action. I have shot the tube guns off a bench at 100 yards and at 300, 500, 600, 800, 900, and 1000 yards.

In my opinion since the barrels are completely free floated they provide and excellent platform for Light gun BR. All the rifles I have put together shot groups in the low twos and teens.

For those BR shooters who were familiar with the late Shelly Davidsons "Tinker Toy" the tube guns are different, but share some of the same ideas. I think you will be seeing some shooters in the future shooting Tube guns in BR for a number of reasons function and cost being two. Some times new ideas take a little time to take off.

Tube Guns

Although not everyones cup a tea,I've been building and shooting on MAK
Kits for a few years now and have had some pretty good results.Easy to put together,modify and switch around for whatever game you shoot.
Since the MAK kit will accept pretty much any butstock and grip available for AR15's,it's easy to modify to ride bags,use bipod or shoot TR or XC . Also repeaters use dependable AI mags.
It's not difficult to utilize the central action and swap out everything else.
I have both single shot and repeater builds on Rem 700's and as well on a number of REM 700 clones.
Primarily I shoot F Class and Precision Rifle Matches,but with a few changeouts and a matter of minutes ,it's a comfortable hunter.
It's worth looking into and you might find it maybe your next project.

Google and forum searching yields lots of info, as usual.

Also, MAK kits depend on a glued-in action, and Eliseo's kits do not.
