Will a Rem 700 trigger work on a Rem Model 7? Seems like a basic question but I saw a pic of a 7 trigger and it looked like the one I have for a 700.

Yes it will.
Trigger body is same.
But the bolt release is different.

So a Jewell trigger will work, but the bolt release won't? Am I understanding that correctly?

Yes it will. They make a trigger for the model 7 with the correct bolt release lever.
