Trigger guard for a Savage 93R17

Oddly enough, when the Savage Model 93R17 I bought with two stocks from GunBroker.com arrived, there was no trigger guard for the sporter stock. When I tried to fit the guard from the bench stock, it did not fit. It wasn't even close. I contacted the seller but had no idea where to get one. None of the on-line parts dealers, even Savage itself lists such a trigger guard as available.

I am stumped and would appreciate any help I can get

I have a 93 and ran into the same situation when I purcased a stock from Boyds. None of them come with guards. Most are somewhat inletted. If you have a local gun shop that has parts you can use a standard remington trigger guard. If not sinclar can help you out with a standard guard. Bench guns are the same way, no matter what you get you are going to have to get out a small wood gouge and fit it. Take you time outline it with a pencil. It's not that bad. If you are dealing wih fiberglass you will need a dremel tool. Kenny

Some confusion in my post

I see I did not explain myself well. Probably too many words and convoluted grammer.

It is the standard walnut sporter stock at the top of the attached picture that lacks a trigger guard. I would think that would be a standard Savage Arms replacement part but I'll be darned if I can find anyone who sells one.

The standard sporters used a plastic trigger guard. The newer models with laminated stocks use the Model 40 steel trigger guard.

Call Savage

I'm betting a call to Savage would get you what you need although the Holiday season is not the best time to get anything. Merry Christmas, Guy

Thanks for the Advice

Thanks to everyone offering advice on this seemingly simple problem. One thing I will not do is mount a plastic trigger guard to any rifle, even if that is what came as the stock part. My friendly gunsmith (Tim Mullins of Bremerton, WA.) has offered to fab up a trigger guard out of steel stock he has on hand. After my recent bad experience with Sarco Inc., Tim is also making a new and lighter trigger spring for my Martini. It helps to have skilled friends.
