I got a chance to test my two lots of Eley Edge and two lots of Eley Match today.. Conditions were very good, a light 3-5 mph wind and sunny.. Here are the findings in my rifle......
I shot 5 three shot groups with each lot. Edge lot #'s 0082 and 0083 shot some great groups, with groups in the middle and upper .1's, but also had flyers in one or two of each of the five groups. Edge 0082 is line #2 and 0083 is line #4. The Eley match, Lot numbers 3029 and 5045 did about the same, but seem to be a little more consistent in the groups, with only one group from each lot showing a flyer. Eley Match 3029 is line #7 and 5045 is line #9. The flyers didn't go out that far, maybe 1/4 to 3/8", but enough to give you the next lower value on the target.
I then shot an ARA target with each of the different lot numbers and this is where the problems showed up. All four lot #'s group very good, but all four lot #'s would not shoot a good target. The targets shot with Eley Edge scored 1850 and 1950, while the Eley Match targets scored 1950 and 2025.
After shooting the Match and Edge, I shot an ARA target with my current lot of Eley Match and it scored a 2300..
This is not a controlled test by any means. I am just reporting my results, with my rifle. But after today, I think I will stay with my current lot number and maybe test some more Match when the next shipment comes in.. I think I will pass on the Edge.. for the time being..
