Has anyone looked into different coating on rifle barrels. I saw some info on TiAlN and it looked interesting. Supposidly its some form of aluminum and ceramic it also mentioned that if damaged while hot the coating trys to reform with additional heat. I have no idea how much it would cost to coat a barrel.

Benifits

Butch:
What are the benifits for this process? Does the treatment change the bore diamentions/surface?

Fred,
It is not a coating, so have not found that it alters dimensions. You could almost call it a low temp case hardening. It has a very very hard 4-6 mill shell. I sent an excellent shooting Shilen that I had 5000 rounds on to one of the guys on the forum. He will use it in his gunsmith class and compare it to other used barrels. They are going to mill half the chamber and throat and photograph the inside. Quartersnatcher that sometime visits the longrange forum has tested it extensively. Joel is a top long range shooter. I'll try to get him to post about this treatment.
