Well Im certainly new at Chambering But Weve tried it a few times & Running into the prob. of having too long a throat with the reamers we have Wev been chambering some 223 ackleys & std. 223s We bought the reamers from midway, solid pilot They work great but we wind up w/a chamber too long for light bullets Can this be adjusted or do we have too buy a custom reamer ?

It would require regrinding by a talented grinder...

You have the option of having the reamers reground to produce a shorter throat, buying a reamer with a shorter throat, or removing the throating portion altogether and throating with a separate throater. I like separate throaters just fine as they give you some flexibility. Regards, Bill

Why would they do this You reckon they are lawyer proofing them or its because of the fast twist long bullet craze ? Or maybe there kin to the weatherbys , any way its a pain for old geezers who still want 1/14 twist & light bullets.

no...not this time...its more about a flexible chamber...the ability to shoot 75 and 80's in a 223...not sure on a 222, but maybe.

the reamer could be reground...
or
seat a bullet where you want it in a case, send to a reamer grinder and have a custom made one done....i did.....

while your at it go from min body, turned or no turn neck, short free bore, limited case neck clearance..

Custom reamer(s)

mike in co: yes, when ordering reamers, ( from Pacific), I also specify the same dimensions you mention, and also include the maximum chamber length. If not requested, the chamber length will be .030"+ longer than max. case length, creating the "gap" in front of the case mouth. For a max. case length of 1.760" ( for example), I'll specify the chamber length to be 1.770". Some of my "unspecified" chambers have gaps of up to .038", and since the brass stretches a minimal amount, there is nothing I can do, and the gap fills with a ring of carbon, as seen w/ my borescope. As long as we're spending the big bucks for a match quality barrel and the cost of installation, the only way to go is with a custom reamer, not the "one-size-fits-all".
