but I'm thinking of necking a 6.5x47 Lapua to 7mm for a lightweight pack around rifle for all around shooting. Anyone done this or have any thoughts on the cartridge? I would think it would be a good shooting round with good barrel life. What do ya'll think? Thanks!--Mike Ezell

I know it kikz AZZ as a thirty.... Beats my .308-200.

I'll opine that your creation will beat Karamojo Bell's favorite elephant cartridge by 120fps in the clinch and accurate to boot.

I thoughts have been to build a straight 6.5x47L as a very lightweight carry around rifle as well. Besides, I already have the reamer. ;)

There are a few Rifle Silhouette shooters running the 7x47 and it shoots well and should give excellent barrel life.

I shot a 7 IHMSA pistol pretty actively for while, and it was accurate. That cartridge is very similar to a 7x47L. There are so many bullet choices in 7 mm, it's hard not to like the caliber. Which case, though, is another question. You could use 7 BR, 7x47L, 7-08, 280, or 284 on the same bolt. The choice probably depends on the bullets you need for the game you plan to shoot, and the range you expect to shoot. For eastern deer hunts with shots typically under 100 yards, the 7x47L would do nicely with medium weight bullets. Heck, the 7 BR would be fine, too, though it might not feed as well as the 7x47L. For western elk, moose and bear hunts with shots up to 300 yards (or more if you so choose), I would build a 284 improved and shoot the heaviest bullets. Fun project!

Cheers,
Keith
