A customer brought in a 700 rem in 300 H&H and asked me to reinstall his barrel.OK said I as he unwraped it from a dirty bedsheet.
I recoiled in horror as he laid all the peices on the counter.
He had heated the barrel and reciever to at least a cherry red creating lots of scale inside and out. I tried to explain to that if he ever fired this rifle it would probably be fatal to him and of course refused to do the work but I did offer to tourch cut the rec.& bbl.
He declined my offer and said there was nothing wrong with the rifle and would fix it himself. Then he ask me for two boxes of ammo which I said I did not have{lie}.I also told him he would only need one round for obvious reasons.
This lugnut went ballistic stormed out of the shop yelling something about going to wal-mart.
I've never seen him again.

If it were only that easy!
More likely check the local for sale ads...he probably managed to cobble it back together.

Yes that is the bigger problem . If he managed to get the barrel out it is a lot easier to screw it back in half tight , do a rough bluing job and flog her off.
Some poor innocent inexperienced shooter buys it.
