They're here....

and I have to say, the FWB300S and Walther are probably the nicest looking guns I own. I mounted my Weaver V-24 on the Walther and bought a cheap Tasco 6-24X for the FWB and shot them both off my picnic table. Just for the purpose of sighting in and getting to know the guns, I put out an ARA target and shot some groups. Man, these things are fun to shoot. The Walther gives you a bit of a workout while cocking( I have to stand up to get enough leverage), but the trigger is absolutely amazing. I'd say it's lighter than either one of my Suhls. The FWB is much easier to cock, and the trigger was almost as light. Both rifles shot very well, and I'm looking forward to trying out an AGBR target!
Todd

Todd,

My Suhl trigger is set on 1.5oz. Just curious are the triggers lighter than that? I've heard them good air guns have got some killer light triggers. I sure would like to have either one of them guns. ;) I've heard great things about both.

Todd,

Again, my apologise to Kathy!

But, on the other hand, welcome aboard and looking forward to seeing your new guns. Now, get ready to have the most fun you've ever had in your life. And just think, you'll be able to form a whole new wannabuy list, if it's not already in place.

Let's see: two new PCP's,
one for each of the PCP classes: Match and Unlimited, plus back-up guns for all three classes, along with scopes, and maybe a new benchrest stock or three, a new carbon fiber tank, or tanks. And pellets. Lots and lots of pellets! Oh, and as is on my list, a new one-piece rest. Plus, are you ready for this? you'll wannna try a gun or two in each of the three allowed calibers .177, .20 & .22, for each class.

And let us not forget about setting Kathy up!!! For each Class!!!

Money. It's only money!

Who needs to retire anyway? The good side is: you'll be all set-up for what you'll want to do during your retirement. The bad side will be: you won't be able to afford to do it anywhere other than in your own back yard between the price of gas, and the money you have tied up in puff-guns.

Make sure Kathy understands that if she ever wants to join us, and doesn't feel like pumping iron, she's always more than welcome to use my gun at any match.

Dave
:D

Brad,
Without being able to measure, I'd say the Walther is probably close to 1.5oz(My Suhls are at about 2oz). I haven't had a chance to look over the owners manual to see if I can convert it to a single stage, like the Suhls. As it is now, you have to VERY careful when you get to the end of the first stage or it'll go off.

Dave,
No wish list here. These guns are going to do me just fine for a while. Besides, since Salem isn't exactly an oceanfront community, I'd probably have to drive 50 miles to get a tank filled. I'll stick with Springer and Match class for now. I think you might see Dan Gibeault picking up a PCP gun before too long, though. He's pretty excited about the AGBR matches at Salem, and knowing him, his breakbarrel RWS isn't going to satisfy him for too long;)

As far as Kathy goes, I don't think she's got any desire to shoot, and I know she couldn't shoot the Walther. I'll see if I can get her to shoot the FWB sometime in the backyard, though. Time will tell....
Todd

Todd,
Congrats on the new air rifles!!!!

But, ya know, there must be some scuba shops up there in dem hills for lake diving, police teams, etc.
How 'bout Rich Morin's Professional Scuba Centers‎ in Glen Falls.

hmmm....I smell a PCP burning a hole in Todd's pocket:rolleyes:

Looking forward to shooting a Salem next week.

Best,
Michael

Todd,
Good luck with the new toys. My pellets came in from PA so Now I have several more to try. I plan to shoot my Walther tomorrow and maybe the PCP.
If you have the book on the Walther LGR could you copy it for me?

I had a good time in Maine shooting Guy's Memorial Match. Joe Shaw shot a 247 9 X on card 3 for third place. Not bad for 92.

Paul

Michael,
Yeah, I kind of figured if I looked hard enough I could find a scuba shop near Lake George(still 30-40miles from here), but if I spend any more money on guns right now, Kathy will burn a hole in ME:eek: I've got another Walther on the way, and I've got to make that one disappear before she sees it:eek:. She seems to think this money should go towards something else...like our wedding. I'll be going through my benchrest gear and having a clearance sale soon!

I think we're going to have another good turnout at Salem next week. We're forming the slabs for the new benches on Thur, and will probably pour them the next week sometime. I want to get them done before we run into a two relay situation for a Sunday match!

Paul,
Let me know what yours likes. So far mine likes RWS R-10's and Superdomes the best. The FWB actually shoots a wider range of pellets pretty well, with Beeman's H&N Match having a slight edge over the others. I'll see if I can copy the Walther manual. I may even be able to scan it and e-mail it to you. I'll send you a shot of the test target that came with mine, too. It's about a .177 hole with ten shots through it at 10m.
Todd

Todd,
Yeah, but man, you just gotta be nice to Kathy. She is so supportive of your commitment to BR, you just have to find ways to pay her back.

Your wedding comes first!!

But then.......

See you next week.

Michael

I'm confused, thought Kathy was a rimfire gunsmith?

Now Kathy is Todds' wife to be?

If I'm missing something here, please let me know where I faded off........

Gordon,
My Kathy is a REAL "Kathy". And like Michael said, I have to be nice to her. I'm 45 yrs old, so that makes about 25 yrs I've been looking for the right woman....I don't have to look anymore:) She's been to 90% of the matches I've shot all up and down the East Coast in the 3+ yrs we've known each other. That's gotta be close to 150 matches, if not more. I keep telling her I'm going to relax a little "next year", but neither one of us believes it. And she still wants to marry me!

Paul, I tried scanning the Walther manual tonight, but it's taking too long and the file is WAY to big to e-mail. I'll print up a couple of copies (Kevin K. needs one too). Are you coming to Salem next weekend? If not, I'll mail you a copy. Thanks for the pellets, too. I got them yesterday, and will be testing on Tue. I gotta find something to shoot before the next Pinnacle Mtn. match! LOL, it'll be like my first Rimfire match there, showing up with a 10/22 to shoot against Calfee guns:eek:
Todd

Todd,
I will have to see how far I get on the Honey Do list this week before I think about going to Salem this weekend. I will let you know by Fri. either way I will be going to PM in two weeks.

Paul

Todd, congrats on the new rifles, and your Bride to be. "Let the fun begin". Good luck with the new toys and the best to You and Kathy.

Take Care,
Joe

Todd, I got your paperwork

Targets will ship out today.

It's been a while since I have made it to your neck of the woods. Back earlier in my career, I spent almost a year in a small town just south of Glens Falls. I worked at Knolls Lab/ GE and stayed in a campground owned by a guy name Nick Econ near Gansevoort,NY

The mountains there are beautiful especially in the fall. I always carried a couple 6PPC with me then and shot the winter league at Dunahams Bay. Met a lot of the great legends of the centerfire game while there.

Seely Masker, Jerry Masker, Norm Dixon, The brothers from Whitehall with the great bullets. Man what a group of shooters. Hard to believe that was 20 years ago now.

Ron,
If that campground is the one on RT. 50, my kids live about 3 miles from it. Small world!

I tested about 15 different types of pellets in both guns this afternoon, indoors. I found a few standouts, and will be ordering a few tins to try outdoors. I'm hoping I'll have something that will shoot in the wind in time for Pinnacle's match in a week and a half!
Todd

Todd,

A couple of things:

If you're shooting either of those guns, there's a good chance you'll be going going it alone in a different class than our uppity-up guns as ours are Unlimited, and yours I believe are Match and/or Springer guns, so don't worry too much about us beating up on you. Of course, Paul might decide to do a little switch-hitting.

On the PCP tank charging issue: it doesn't have to be done at a SCUBA shop. I'll be taking mine to an indoor Paintball facility right in Nashua (8 miles from my house) as I'm looking to get a charge up around 4500 psi for my carbon fiber tank ($6.50), and most dive shops can only take you up to 3200 psi at most. There must be a Paintball Sporting Goods Store somewhere in Bennington or the surronding community within a few miles of you guys. Plus, you could call your local VOLUNTEER Fire Department and ask where they get their life support air tanks filled.

Dave

Dave,
If I'm the only one there shooting a Match gun, you can sign me up for UL. I shot the Walther in a steady 10mph wind today with some H&N Field Target Trophy and Crosman Premier 7.9's . I only had a few of each, and need more practice to get a handle on how these little buggers act in the wind, but I was happy with how it was shooting. I've got a tin of the H&N's and a box of Crosman, along with a couple of others that tested well indoors on order. If they get here soon enough for me to get some practice sessions in in the wind, I think I'll be able to hold my own against your uppity guns. Considering that your carbon fiber tank cost more than my gun, I'll be happy no matter how I place.

The best part of shooting these guns is doing it in my back yard. I've always liked the big Maple tree, but I think I'm going to be spending ALOT of time under it this summer! Pics attached.

Man, I can just hear you now: "Kathy, I'm going out back to mow the lawn. I'll be back in about 4 hours."

Todd, you're not thinking! If you are having a good day with your Match gun, you'll have a much better chance of capturing a World Record if you shoot it in the right Class. And, it won't change anything so far as the match goes other than which column your score is written in since everything is shot simultaneously anyway. And then, think of the bragging rights you'll have if you kick our butts when shooting in a lower class, but post the high target for the day.

Dave

Dave,
Good point, but I don't think I'm going to be breaking a World record, especially since shooting my first real AGBR target this evening with my #2 Walther. It was the first time I've shot this particular gun, so I MAY not have had the right pellets for it. I started the timer about 5 minutes before a 20 minute burst of rain and wind came through, but kept shooting anyway. Had 2 X's, a 10 and 2-9's on the first row, and it went downhill in a hurry from there. By the time I started the last row, with 4 minutes left on the clock, I was holding in the black....on the bull to the left of the one I was trying to hit:eek: Funny thing, I shot a couple(ok, several) 7's and 8's on the third and fourth rows, but shot a 10 and 4-9's on that last row! Best guess on the score, using a live .22LR round as a plug, would be about a 221-2X. You guys don't need to be looking over your shoulders for me:eek: I think the other Walther shoots a little better. The pellets I ordered for it will be here Tue. and I'll try to get a target or two shot before the 31'st. The important thing is that I'm having fun learning.....Hey, I've got the Champions Choice catalog open in front of me, and I see Anschutz makes a Benchrest Airgun....Kathy's going to kill you, Dave;):p:D

Todd,
I will bring my two winning car jacks to PM. The only problem is other people were using them. You can forget about that fancy front rest. My money is on Doug Shea's Truck jack and stubby ratchet!
