“The Winds of Fairchance”!
950 Benchrest shooters attended this year’s annual Hog Roast Benchrest Match at the Fairchance Rod and Gun Club, in Fairchance Pennsylvania, for some great times spent with friends and for many to work towards earning a position for the U.S. World Team for the WBC-15 World Championship to be held in St. Louis, MO next fall.
The Hog Roast match was the second -match of the five total qualifying matches made available for U.S. BR Group shooter’s to attend, necessary to accrue points through their best finishes in any 3 of their best qualifying matches, held at select BR ranges throughout the U.S. this year.
The Hog Roast match is always a great match to meet up and visit with old friends. Competition for the 2-Gun is always hotly contested with a high-percentage of the top U.S. BR Group shooters in attendance!
Shooters were met with cool temperatures and windy conditions as many arrived mid-week to tune their rifles and sharpen their wind reading skills. High winds would prove to be a real challenge for all shooter’s to embrace or …. to cuss at all weekend long!
Saturday morning’s start of the Heavy Varmint 100yd aggregate was met with the somber news of Bud Welsh’s passing. Bud consistently attended many of the NBRSA Eastern Region group matches over the years, was a well-respected gunsmith from Buffalo N.Y. and was rarely without a warm smile! Would ask you to please keep Bud and his family in all your prayers….
The Master, Tony Boyer, showed why he is in a class all his own in easily managing switching winds to win the HV-100 aggregate with a very fine .1848” .agg.

It was great to catch up with so many friends, as we start another great year of Benchrest matches!
