Does anyone know if Hakko are back in business, they have become avaliable again in my area and I am curious as to the source. They seem pretty good value for money but I am suspicious as to wether they are just old stock with no guarantee.

How about a link to which specific scopes you're referring to .

Some years ago I was under the impression that Hakko made decent quality scopes with other peoples name on them. Gale McMillan told me that he bought components for is line of day/night scopes from Haako.. I'm not certian but I think they made the B&L 4000 10X40 mil-dot which was one of the better sniping scopes available before Leupold came out with their Mk 4 series. The design of the present Bushnell 3200 10x40 is similar though stripped down quite a bit and 1/4 the price of the B&L 4000.. Hakko was manufactured in Japan. I don't know if it still is.

Hakko made or worked with Nightforce (and Sightron as a builder) at the start, but that didn't end well, you still see a few now and again up for sale that are marked Nightforce that really are not as they used the name and logo. If there is ever a question give NF a call @ 204-476-9814 with the serial number ad they will let you know.

As far as any NEW Hakko scopes (or any NOS ones found in a ware house) I'd stay away and buy something that's proven, there are a lot of good optics that can be had second hand that come with TRANSFERABLE warranty.

Hakko Scopes.

Thanks gentlemen for your comments, The scope in question is a Hakko Superb 2.5to10x40, it has a big eye box very similar to a german scope and is claimed to have a lifetime warranty. Forgot to ask the wholesaler where one goes for a waranty claim but will be sure to ask before I put down any cash.:D
