I was able to buy a grade 10 Suhl from Dave Smith, down in Florida four years ago. Man! What a prize that rifle is! A year later, one of my friends wanted a good Suhl. I heard that Jim Williams still had some of his "Grade 10s", so I called him. He said he was saving some of them for his Grandchildren, but that he would sell me one. Then: We had two grade 10s UP here in our club at Sault Ste. Marie.
Two weeks ago I saw an ad here in Benchrest Central's classsifieds, stating that Jim was selling the last of his Grade 10s. I sent an e-mail, and was told there were only four left. My respond was: "I'll take them".
They came yesterday, complete with test targets.
Two of them had labels on the stocks with the names of Jim's grandchildren. One was marked "Jim's back-up rifle", and the fourth had a label indicating it was Jim's personal rifle.
As some of you know, I am not a dealer, and not a collector. My hobby since I retired has been promoting rimfire benchrest. I plan to "play" with those Suhls, until they are well tuned: Then I'll sell them to four of our local club members. We have several who are in the Sporter/Vintage Classes now, and I plan to tempted them to "move up".
Should not be too hard to sell a well tuned Grade 10 Shul, should it?
