The click at the top of bolt manipulation

I have heard some in the past mention the dreaded click when opening a 700 bolt. Can someone explain the issue at hand and how to correct? I'm assuming the issue is related to camming and extraction.

The click is caused by cartridge cases binding in the chamber, most often at the base. I won't accept it under any circumstances therefore I have my chambers cut large at the back, NO click, EVER.

But I'm weird, definitely in the minority

as of yet

If you don't have enough extraction camming which is quite common on 700 actions that have been trued and even some of the lower grade actions as they come from the factory, you'll have trouble extracting cases. The front of the bolt handle in the closed position should be fairly close to the rear of the bolt handle cutout in the receiver. If it's not, then may be part of your problem. If the bolt handle is getting you as much extraction as it can, then it's a die to chamber match problem. A die that doesn't size the base of the case enough will cause the click at the top of the bolt stroke.

Yes, winter has finally arrived, and it is raining. Have a good day.

Hmm now I am getting worried.
Boyd thinks its winter....I just checked and its 90 degrees outside.
WELL you know that they say old people are cold all the time.

Boyd, with the advent of copy & paste, I believe the notion of writing something 100 times has lost significance...

A suggestion that is never received well is to reduce the powder charge thus delaying the 'click' for a set of cases.

I bought an IBM "PC Junior" way back yonder when there was no internet and modem rates were 300 baud. I also bought a Daisy Wheel printer that printed like a typewriter...well..it was a typewriter for all practical purposes. My daughter got in a jam at school and had to write something 500 times over a weekend. I fired up my trusty PC Junior, stuck in the word processing cartridge and made short work of it. Told her to take it to school and tell the teacher that I not only agreed with the punishment but added the task of typing it without any errors. The teacher bought it hook line and sinker....thanked me at the next PTA meeting for supporting her disciplinary efforts.

One of my contributions to "sticking it to the man".

...".

Funny thing back when 27.5 gr of H322 was just about the standard load being shot, you never heard of a click at the top of the bolt stroke.
