Fellas i came across these federal 205 magnum primers several years ago and i just now tried them in my 30BR this past weekend. My results were outstanding and i would really like to find some more. If anyone has any they can part with please let me know. More importantly tell me a little history about them, and is there anything made today that equal this primer. Im sure i wont be able to come across any of these so i am going to have to find something else. Thanks lee

205M SRM Primers

Hey Lee, just saw this post. Actually that is the primer I used back in the good ole days, just happened to get them. Now, I am using Wolf SRM with good results, and I think Humble Henry uses the regular 205M with good results. I don't think it matters too much if you make some minor tuning adjustments. Good luck with it.

Lee,

Yes I too believe the BR4 is "closest" to the 205MMag........... I believe too, the Rem 7 1/2 and is a tad hotter than the BR4..... I think the 7 1/2 cup is a bit more sensitive than the BR4... If ya have a small pin diam and short protrusion the 7 1/2 may be the way... Neither is as sensitive as a 205...

The Wolf or Tula SR 223 is another to consider.... The Wolf / Tula SRM is very mild, just like the Standard SR... Same primer mix and is VERY mild, if single base powder, your ok...Though....... Ball powder goes cliccck BANG with the SRM....

Well i couldnt get any CCI BR primers at my supplier so i tried some CCI 400 in the 30BR to replace the 205magnum primers i am now out of and the results were not what i was hoping for. I really wish i could get a hold of some more of the Federal 205 magnum primers but that will be next to impossible it looks like. I will track down some CCI benchrest primers and go from there. Just though i would update this old post. It sure is amazing how a group can change from one primer to the next. I had 15 rounds loaded with the 205magnum 118 Brady knight bullets 33.3gr of 4198 bullets .012 off full jam and i shot 3 groups that measured in the zeros then i shot the exact same load same day 10 minutes after i shot the federal magnum and the groups went from zero to .250 just like that!! Same everything except the primer. Like i said, i had high hopes for the CCI 400 but no dice. now i dont know what i will do with them. By the way, does anyone have any Federal 205 magnum primers your not using??? LOL!!!! Thanks Lee

Lee,
Some 6PPC shooters have used Winchester primers with good results. I believe that they are a little hotter than 205s but not a lot. Have you tried any?

No sir i haven't. I was a little disappointed in my suppliers on the shelf selection on this last visit. He usually carries a little of everything. He said the rifle components haven't been selling well here lately so he hasnt ordered anything new. This area is big for shotgunning and Wayne caters mainly to them, and not the rifle guys. Its a shame as he only lives 7 miles across the hill. Anyway German suggested i try some CCI BR primers so i will see if i cant locate some. thanks Lee

I have a box (same packaging as your pic.) of 1000 of them that I bought 5-6 years ago...? I always assumed they were just mis-marked regular 205M's. If I had a way to get them to you (Hazmat) I'd offer them up for sale since I really don't have a use for them.
