Target Poll Results

What does my Poll tell me?
My first sampling was directed towards a target sampling of shooters outside the US who had shot in World events and I had an email for. (131 shooters from15 Countries)
With 67 Votes in - 91% felt that Standardization was needed with 54% saying it was needed Now. I do not have any way to determine who the voters were or from what country they were from. At that point I received 20 email replies from 10 countries and they were all in favor of standardization & voted in the poll. I have not received any email from the 9% who did not want to change.

I then put a link to the poll on this forum yesterday morning and then let run for 24 hours.
With 63 more votes I felt I now had another valid sampling. Granted it was not statically as valid as the first 67 but I felt it shared the same trend.
With 130 votes in - - 84% felt that Standardization was needed with 45% saying it was needed Now. I do not have any way to determine who the voters were or from what country they were from. I have now received 31 email replies from 11 countries and they were all in favor of standardization on the target & voted in the poll. I have not received any email from the 16% who did not want to change which I find interesting.

As Pointed out earlier a few people found a way to vote more than once. If they did I have no way of knowing. In reviewing my website statistics & email I did not feel this had a material effect on the overall validity of the poll.
Did I feel that results of my poll indicated an overwhelming majority were in favor of change as the above Seem to show. NO - because the target audience was limited and statistically speaking marginal. Coupled with this fact was the Simple Poll I used had very limited controls.
However it did tell me that I have not wasted my time in my quest for Standardization!:)

Re Poll

Hya Doug,
That is an interesting result so what is the next step from this? I will be watching with interest.

Not sure what it REALLY means ?

You could take a poll and ask if more trash dumps are needed or jails etc. and you might get 75% to 90% to say they are needed. Then, if it is to be located in their neighborhood, almost 100% would be against it. I did not see your survey, but if it failed to ask if a standard target was needed and made no mention of the possibility that the target would not be the one they were currently using, the survey is probably less valid. I suspect the same with any equipment changes or rule changes for surveys. My two cents.

I agree. I doubt that the poll is valid. It appears to be an attempt to get "agreement" on what you've already decided. You have to factor in the people who weren't interested enough to participate in the poll and have no intention of changing. I'm not trying to knock your efforts or anything, but I dismissed it as soon as I saw it and I'm sure a lot of others did as well.

Neither poll was statistically valid, but comparing scores from one to another is sometimes difficult by numbers alone. Even if you could find every single .22LR BR shooter on this planet, I don't think you could find a majority for the use of one single target design. Rimfire shooters have picked their own disciplines and decided what they like to shoot. In the U.S. most are restricted by what is available geographically. Interestingly enough the entire earth is separated geographically. One governing body on .22LR BR shooting is not plausible. It would be like Stalin rose from the grave. That is the beauty of RF they can pick and choose or deal with regional BS and they can tell the rest of the world to quit whining. The rest of the story on your statistical analysis is in your own words " but I felt it shared the same trend." That sounds like the U.S. media on anything political.......left wing!

Another thought...

I don't think folks will agree on a common target. But there might be some agreement that those who shoot closer to the center are doing better than those who don't. I think it is possible to be able to score any target in terms of distance to the center. If that form of scoring was used in addition to the common form of scoring to the particular target, you might end up with a basis of comparing performance regardless of the target used. Then of course would come the arguments about differences in equipment and rules etc.
