On June 6th and 7th, 2 months past schedule due to the Covid 19 pandemic, Tacoma Rifle and Revolver Club held their first benchrest match of the year. We were able to maintain social distancing by having 2 relays. Relay 1 was odd numbered benches, and relay 2 even. Our revised match would determine the winner of the Allen Bench trophy. Saturday winds were mixed with rain, We did get a few breaks where it was calm and quiet. Unfortunately, they didn't last long! We had 15 shooters ready to get back to the business of shooting small groups!
We began with our light varmint match at 100 yards on Saturday morning which was won by Larry Boers with a .2092" agg. That afternoon at 200, Mark Walker showed his wind doping skills and won the yardage (.2102"). Larry Boers was able to edge out Mark and won the grand aggregate with an agg of .2188"
Sunday brought more rough conditions for us. It rained and poured then cleared and rained some more. We shot the Heavy Varmint class at 200 yards in the morning. Jeff Lewis shot a .2202" agg. to win the yardage. At 100 yards, Steve Kostanich took the yardage with amazing .1976" agg (Our only teen agg of the weekend). Steve held on to win the HV grand aggregate (.2109") , but hold on to your horses..... Mary Matau was in the drivers seat the whole time. Mary wins the 2 gun with a .2527" Grand agg. Mary was consistent the whole match. Congratulations Mary on your first 2 gun win!!
A good time was had by all. Great to get our Benchrest family all together once again. Thank you to all our out of town guests for traveling all the way from home to come shoot with us during this difficult time.
Of special note: Small groups were shot by Larry Boers, Mary Matau, Eldon Yarborough, Jeff Lewis, Paul Weaver, Mark Walker, Steve Kostanich and Dan Kjelland.
A big thank you to our amazing crew! Zack Silverton, Jim Lynn, Geoff Hallett and Craig Kensler are the behind the scenes guys making things happen.
Thank you!!
See you next month for the Manley Oakley / Andrews Memorial shoot.
This will take place July 3rd, 4th and 5th, and will consist of Unlimited 5 shot (Fri), Sporter (Sat) and Heavy Varmint (Sun). We will have a modified schedule for the rest of the year, coming shortly.
Shoot small,
Jeff
