I was planning on mounting my T36 on my 40x to test some ammo. I was planning on picking up some Weaver 35 and 36 bases and some Burris Signature rings. What height rings should I get?

It really does not matter for BR. Comfort is the key so I get the tall mounts if weight is not an issue.

I agree, you ain't shooting squirrels with a 36X, get the tall ones. Thanks, Douglas

I'd like to add, if you plan on using the 40X for benchrest, forget the Weaver bases, way too big and bulky for it; those sig rings ain't cheap so if you're set on the Burris, get the sig .22 rings and the proper bases. Thanks, Douglas

Do you have a suggestion for a good set of bases and rings?

IMO, rings and bases are a personal thing. Sometimes driven by necessity, but still personal.

I believe the Weaver bases with some high Burris Sigs will work nicely if they appeal to you.
They may be too big and bulky for some, but it depends on your taste and your rifle. If your 40x still has the original stock and barrel, the beefy Weaver/Burris may look great. If it's been sleeked out for BR, that combo may be too chunky.

As Don mentioned, for BR, sometimes weight can be an issue.

Here's my BR 40x with Davidson bases and Kelbly rings. Not the cheapest solution, but very solid and very light.

As a reference, here's a Kelbly setup next to a Weaver/Burris setup. The Kelbly configuration is the same as the ones on the rifle. The Weaver/Burris are steel bases (for an Anschutz) and medium height rings.

The Kelbly combo is .900" tall (from the bottom of the base to the bottom of the ring), while the Weaver/Burris combo is .625" tall.
The Kelbly's get the T36 up about .620" off my .850" barrel.
The Kelbly combo weighs 1.1 oz., while the Weaver/Burris combo weighs 3.2 oz.

So depending on your rifle and your taste, there are a lot of choices out there.

I thought you were talking about the Weaver bases with the slots and the through bolt, my bad. The Burris Signature Zee rings are a good choice especially if you have wind/elv issues the inserts will eliminate that. Make sure you get the ones for .22, that fit on 3/8 dovetails. Then get bases like in Jerry's picture, good thing about 40X is easy to get bases, look for label Remington 700. The Kelby's are what I use on my 40X. Great pics, Jerry, explains way better than words. Thanks, Douglas

No bad here, you are absolutely correct. Weaver bases do have the slot for the through bolt. You can't tell from the picture, but the base does have a slot. Some could perceive this as as a limiting factor as you can't adjust the rings forward or rearward on the base.
