has any one tried the new wonder powder in the 260 remington. Im trying to shrink some 200 yard groups, squeak a few more fps ot of a new barrel. I have been to the hodgdon web site and the hornady web wite but no reload data for the 260 yet. I immagine i could start with a light 243 load and work up but didnt know if any one had tried it yet and knew if it was worth my time. Does it offer any real speed advantage, and how where the groups.

thanks
Will

We have been using H4831 Ex in the 260 AI. Works very good! Barrel is Shillan length is 26".

The AI conversion makes a lot of improvement in the 260. Best cases are the 243 Laupa necked up to the larger bullet.

i have a 24" shelin, 1-8 twist, and i have tried the 4831 with the 140's but groups where erratic, some over 2" at 100,and it was on the slower side of listed velocities. I think a short free bore may be pushing the bullets too far into my powder space. The rifle seems to do ok with the 120's over 4064. Im going to try 4831 and 4350 with the 120's because i have it on hand to see if i can boost velocity a little, and more improtantly try to shrink my groups a little. right now im hovering under an inch at 100, and 1.25 at 200. I have considered the AI improvement, ive done it to a 223 with awesome results, but for now im trying to aviod machine work this close to shooting season. I'm hoping some one has tried the superformance in a 260 so i can find out if its worth the $50 to have a bottle shipped here to try it myself.

I've built several and own 2-260's myself. All have been 24-26", Krieger Cut Barrels and 1-8 or 1-8.5 twist. All have shot H4350 extremely well with the CCIBR2's. 139 Scenars at 2,830+fps with ease and 130 Bergers over 2,950. No pressure with any of the loads and 27moa to 1k seems to be the norm.

Williev18, try H4350 if you have some available, I think you'll like it.

I dont know if its widley available, it's not localy available in gun shops here. I have found you can get it through powder valley, but im hoping to see if any one has tried it in the 260 b4 i pay the $25 to ship a $18 dollar bottle of powder.

I`d talk to Hodgdon and see what they say. I`ve been told the Superformance powders are pretty cartridge specific in their applications and if data isn`t available it probably won`t do anything other powder wont do better.
I`ve 2 260s and both seem to do best velocity wise with slower powders. Your H4831 should be a good performer as is R19 H4350 or any other of similar burn range. I prefer R19 with 120gr bullets in mine or H4350 as a 2nd choice.

Williev18 I try 4350 even with the 140s. good luck Max

thanks for the advice guys. was gonna go to the range today and test some 4350 loads, but got side tracked when the local game warden needed help finding an injured moose. I no idea what he velocity was, but i can say 44 gr of 4350 and a 140 gr A-max will fully pass through a 500 pound cow moose.

Worning!!!!' Please don't put 44grns of H4350 powder in your 260Rem. I only put 40.5 grns in of H4350 powder with Berger 140grn VLD'S @ 2775fps. And that's just under max at 41.1 grains.
I have a 27" Kreiger barrel with a 1&8 twist. So for your safety please take what you read on here with a grain of salt. That even goes for what I said. Use a reloadin book with the bullet you are goin to shoot, or the powder you are goin to use. Please be careful!!!!
My 260 with the 140grn burgers need 29.69 moa's to reach 1000yrds at 1130' above sea level. Temp 50 degrees outside. That's shootin north. Shootin east or west the drop will change.

superformance in 260

I've been shooting 260 for several years now in bolt guns and using win 760. Got a DPMS ar10 in September and tried my bolt gun loads in it first they were a little too hot. A friend sent me to JP rifles website, where the owner John Paul wrote an article about loading for his gas guns. Superformance is his go to powder for 260 and 6.5 Creedmoor which he claims are ballisticly identical. I found 2 lbs when in Ga. last time and will be trying it in the next few days. His loads are stated to be lighter than bolt guns can handle, but adding more Superforance may make them just right for you. I think you may be on the right track, only trying it will tell.

Joe S I couldnt get enough 4831 in the case to be very effective. Was I doing some thing wrong? But I can in my 6.5-284 case, it also likes VV165. I think VV160 might be good for the 260.
