Super Shoot Equipment List

Looking at the equipment listed for the 2009 Super Shoot, I noticed the overwhelming appearance of Bartlein and Krieger barrels. Is there a reason that Shilen seems to have fallen out of favor?

I don't know, but..........

does Shilen offer cut-rifled barrels now?? There was some discussion a few weeks back about the gain-twist barrels offerred by Bartlein being really competitive, then, someone wrote that Kreiger was offering gain-twist barrels, too. If everyone is trying a new thing, and it cannot be offerred using button-rifled methods, that might have something to do with it.

A few years back Shilen had a large amount of top finishers and the Aggs were just as good then as they are now.

does anyone have a link that shows the list? I would like to see what the top shooters are using. Lee

See "Super Shoot 2009 Results" on this forum, top post.

Ted,
Shilen is the darling of the rimfire set with great barrels. I think you will start seeing more victories in the centerfire arena as well.
Butch

I am sure as well.
I was just making the point that their barrels were very common on the SS list a few years ago and those shot just as well as the Cut Rifled barrels are shooting now.
I would like to try the 13.5 twist though.

Trends

Trends come and go. Back when Shilen barrels were the cream of the crop, so were Pandas. Now, BATs are very popular. Plus, wood stocks are the go-to stock now, where before it was fiberglass or graphite. Is it a progression to smaller aggs, or just "what's hot"?

Wayne as pretty much hit it on the head. If you haven't bought any new gadget or whatchamacallit, you get this urge to "go shopping". Kind of like when the little lady looks in her over stuffed closest and says, "I don't have anything to wear". We are all just big boys and these guns and things are our toys. Aren't you always wanting a new toy. How many times have you seen some one offer to sell their perfectly good BR rifle. Just because they are not shooting as good as they used to, or some other excuse. Just toys. Whatever the guy across the street has (read top shooters), just got to have one. To me it is pretty much a herd situation wanting a new toy. Nothing wrong with that that I can see. :)

Ted,
I like Shilen's 4 groove 13.5 twist barrels. Jump your bullets slightly.

Yep, just like a Kreiger / Bartlein 4 groove... My Shilen .224 4 groove LOVES a .003-.005 jump too!!!:)

I just found that my new Kreiger 13.5 Twist likes .030 off the lands. Would never have believed it until I tried several different seating depths. All the way from .010 past jam, to jam, .010 off, .020 off and bingo at .030 off it came alive. Now will have to see if it will repeat or maybe .005 either side of .030 off.
