Sunday fun in the wind- Ashland Air Rifle match report

Well, a storm was blowing in, and got worst as we shot.. The flags were straight out at times, which was bad enough, but they were blowing through our canyon to the left of our range and swirling when they hit the back stop wall. Mark braved them with his 6fpe FWB 600, standing each shot to cock it. Bob had just mounted and was trying out a new .177 barrel on his Marauder FT rig, and searching for pellets it would shoot while shooting the match!... both shot off bags, and had a great time trying to guess that tricky, gusting wind.

With the new Open class, I decided to turn my stainless barrel USFT#27 back up to 30fpe and give that class a whirl. Which seems to be working out for that barrel. I had to hold over very little to stay close to the 10 ring. In the last two days of practice with that rig, I also shot a 250, 249, 249 yesterday and 250, 248, 248 the day before... she likes 30 fpe and those 16gr Air Arm pellets.

Sporter:
Mark Gravelle 220 - 2X, 222 - 1 X, 196 -0X for 638 -3X

HV 20fpe:
Bob Pont 212- 1X, 226 - 3X, 225- 0X for 663 -4x

Open Class 30fpe
Wayne Burns 250- 15X, 247- 16X, 246- 11X for 743- 42X

Wayne,
Congratulations on your 250's in practice and during your match! WOW Great shooting.

Was looking at the results on the FT Nationals to see how Dan Brown and his Son did. Was pleased that Doug Miller Won. Viper and Robert did Great along with Dan. His son Daniel Finney Won first place in the Hunter FT.

Then I read your having the 2012 FT Nationals at your range. Congratulations you will be busy next year.

Paul,

Thanks, She shot great at 30fpe when I picked her up.. but I tried to get her down to 20fpe for the Worlds, and my tuning abilities showed themselves, and or that barrel really likes more blast to shoot well... anyway, she's back! .. and I'm glad we have OPEN class to play now.

It was great getting to know you at the worlds. You're doing a great job out east. I hear you folks are planning an "Eastern States Regional" next year too. That's a great idea and I'd like to let those be the culmination of our new postal games..

I'm lovin' this crossover were developing between BR and Field Target. But, like LD says, the sport only grows if we can get newbies in both these worlds. Let's hope the sporter class and some one on one outreach by local club members to places where kids go, will do the trick. Let's get the kids from behind the computer games and out into the world shooting air guns. What's the plan? .. other than walking into a gaming arcade with a USFT:)

Sure Dan,

I can almost shoot as good as you, when you shoot 12fpe and I shoot 30fpe! ... but that's OK, I'm just an old fart, and you're a youngin:)

Lol, are you going to the AZ shoot? I'm toying with the idea(assuming there are openings left). I set up my dependence for 75yards tonight. 950fps with 18.1 jsbs, only problem was the 20mph gusts. I have a .25 barrel that may be better for 75yards though.

Dan,

Yes, I'm going and LD too.. Today I shot a 602 - 3X from 75 yards on the 25 m cards, with 30 fpe #27... That should be a crazy hard game in that desert winds...

It'd be so great to see ya again... You better call em quick. I know they would love to have you, but I heard they might be full or close to it.
