ok i want to get into 22lr shooting benchrest i want to go with a suhl action they look nice and smooth i wanted to buy a old rifle one and as i get money add a stock and all the extras so is there any old suhls up for sale or should i save and get a new remade suhl action and just build it from the ground up?

boy did you open a can of worms!!! i have one i would allow any great shooter to have at it with!! it was made in 1977. it has the 1:16 3/4 twist. the simple fact is if your not a national champ with a rifle like mine your not going to win or get respect on this site. if you do people on this site will poo poo you!!!! i have a rifle that any national champ would love to have a hold of. the difference is i haven't shot in 10,000 matches and people on here make fun of me!!!

to be honest to you this site hates new shooters!! they will call you a troll!!! you could have a honest question like you posted and you get made fun of, or told you are a fool!!!

the suhl action is a very fine action. many a rifle are based off of a suhl action. i say biuld it and have fun. then you can poo poo on everybody who makes fun of you!!!!

We need to know how much money you have to start your build.

P.S drinking and posting is a problem here!

gee i thought for a minute there, rodney dangerfield came back, ol derek
he just don't get no respect.

Yea next time tell us how you really feel about it Derek

Dont know where there are any uses Suhls though they seem to always pop up from time to time.

I built 2 Anschutz 54 rifles exactly the same way you did. As Jonny Cash said, One Piece at a Time. Suhls are great platforms is the Anschutz 54 among others. Suhls have great triggers but if you do not have the good trigger in an Anschutz it is going to cost you over $300 for the good one.

If you don't want to spend the cash up front, buy a rifle, put a scope on it and shoot it. Then put it in a BR stock, if you still need improvement, rebarrel. It is kind of like they used to say about horses...if the feet are not good you don't have a good horse. In a BR rifle if the barrel is not good the rest don't matter. And the ammo.

Good Luck

Price range i was looking for around 1000 to 2000 around there. i have looked around and i wanted to not buy a builded suhl or 40x i wanted to build it up myself just to go through the work of finding the right ammo and everything else so if u guys know of the right choice i do like anschutz but i don't know find one for the right price a 54 action

Chuck,

Go buy a rifle and start shooting. I have two Suhls that have been built into bench rifles. They will shoot as good as any. Don't be afraid to buy a 54 Anschutz either. Both are used regularly in our game, and sucessfully, I may add. Do as you intend and add as you go. I started shooting benchrest with a Walther factory position rifle. Over the years I've shot at 24 different ranges in 11 states. Never been made to feel unwelcome, always treated with great hospitality. Don't listen to what some might say. Keyboard shooters have a different perspective than that of reality.

do any u guys know were would be a good place to find a suhl or anschutz 40x or something that i could build up as i go i'm looking for a nice smooth action and a good trigger and i know both guns listed have a good trigger so if u guys have any input were to get a match 54 action rifle or a suhl rifle i been trying to look around and find one

two good places to look,mt guns they have a wide variety. Allens armory is out of suhls, but they have been getting some real nice ones in about every 6 weeks.

suhls

they come up for sale very often on our classifieds. if not a suhl there are some great b/r rifles listed all the time.

call the sellers up and talk to them. i think brian brandt has a nice one for sale now.

good luck

bob

Can we get Brian to come along and shoot it too?
That would make it a great rifle

Allan has a mailing list you can get on. I snagged one of his rifles a couple months ago and the total cost (including shipping and FFL) was $500. I suggest you do the same.

Log on to Allens Armory. Sign up for E-mail alerts. Check your E-mail every evening. Allen opens the Suhl sale about 9pm EST. They go in hours. The one I bought for parts is a shooter so I had to slap one of those ugly :)Stith stocks on it.

You know Derek, you post foolish BS here, rarely say anthing constructive, then run back over to another site and B**** about it, all within the context of about 4-5 matches under your belt. Maybe you're told your a fool because, well...uh...actually....you are.

Chuck, you might want to really give some thought to buying a decent, used Suhl based BR gun and grow into it. You can get one, with patience, at a very decent price , your way will be inherintly more expensive and in the end if you decide to change or loose interest your gonna take a beating as well as taking a lot of time on the project without a base of knowledge[invaluable] to drive the process, just a thought.
