suhl action

What would be a fair price for just the action of a Suhl ?

I was at the right place at the right time and was able to get a Suhl rifle (for parts) from Allens Armory for $515 counting shipping. That gives me action, bolt, trigger for backup parts. Guess what it shoots great so I'm (as we speak) having it bedded in a Stith stock. Soooooooo now I need a parts rifle. This game drives some of us nuckung futs!

Thanks for the reply . I am not talking about a complete rifle -I am talking about just the action it's self and barrel which may have to be changed . thanks for your replys.

Many fine gunsmiths have built excellant rifles on the Suhl platform (Myers built mine) and good scores are shot with the factory barrel. This has caused an almost cult following and demand for the rifle in any configuration. In economic terms it is a sellers market. Unless you are a position shooter the factory stock has little value. I go to gun shows and gun shops in Wi., Il., Ga., and Fi. and have seen one for sale ($650) . And yes I kicked myself later for passing it up.
I suspect you know all this.
.There is a custom Suhl for sale in the classifieds for $1700. Work the numbers forward for what you would have in the rifle and ask the question: can I get my money out of this rifle?

There was a Suhl 150 on Auction Arms that might sell reasonable. The guy says that the barrel might have problems.

A batch just came in and they were selling for less than $500 [ plus another $50 for shipping and transfer]. These latest ones seemed to have the slow twist bbls.

Have you handled one of these things ? The bolt lift is terrible on most of them. If you are planning on rebbl'ing there are plenty of better alternatives. There have recently been some Annie Match 54's selling for $600 to $800 on various sites. The recent CMP 40x's were a great deal for a donor action that is far superior to a Suhl.

In my experience the Suhl is superior to the 40X. I sold all my 40X's and kept my Suhls.
We all have varying experiences and base our beliefs on those experieces

Don,
Do you mean the complete Suhl bbled action is superior to a 40x bbled action or do you mean the Suhl action by itself is superior to a 40x action ?

Ray
The things that I like better comparing the Suhls I own and the 40x's I have owned:

great factory trigger

ease of loading a round into chamber

hassle free bolt release

easier to get stress free bedding

smoother operation of bolt

grooved receiver for scope mounting.

Your mileage may vary

i gave $1000 for one from a guy on here about 3 years ago. he told me it would hit a asprin at 50 yards all day long using wolf match target. when i got it he wasn't lying. i glass bedded it, put a tuner on it and started shoot eley out of it. when i find another great lot i will be buying at least a case of it, more if the money is here at that time.

i truely believe in the hands of a world class shooter my rifle could be untouchable by most custom biulds. in my hands no. i'm a rookie. but a world class shooter could be very well amazed at what this rifle will do. i'd be very willing to let somebody from the nationals shoot it at a match if they wanted. i'd like to know for sure what this rifle can do.

if you want just a action i would buy a entire rifle while you can get them under $1000!! it would be very worth it for you.

here is what it looked like when i got it.

it looks much better now and it is professionally glass and piller bedded now. it shoots better now than when i did it. honastly if a great shooter would come to buckcreek and shoot it ofr me i'd be honored. you might be surprised as h e l l at how it shoots!! all jokes aside.

I agree with Don. I sold my 40x after I purchased a Suhl. I was so pleased with it I bought a second.

Don, last I heard they have one flaw. a fella's still trying to figure where his safe is. still lookin.:D

My rifles are in my safe. Now if you meant safety... Other than sporters, you will have a hard time finding any benchrest rifle that has the safety in place.
Don

Don, you must have missed the post on rim fire where someone had owned a suhl for a while and finally asked where the safety was. and then wasn't real happy when he got the answer.

Anybody want to buy a factory stock and factory barrel off a Suhl. Barrel is a 17 twist I think. garrisone.

DSCN1007.jpg know for sure the 40x has the better stocks, these got the last coat and will get buffed and finished tomorrow. already put a new jewell trigger in the standard. the USMC is the darker and will be shot open sights.

Garrisone, I would be glad to take the bolt and trigger assembly!:D You or anyone else don't happen to know where one of each of those are laying around do you?

Mike: Tim Allen, got me a new Suhl trigger last year. He goes by Banjo on this board. Don't know if he can get bolts or not.
