STW Recoil

I am thinking of setting up my Remington 700 7mm STW for benchrest competitions. The rifle seems to have a small recoil problem:eek:. Would I be wasting my money on a Limbsaver (model 10101)? 60+ Round in a morning of shooting the STW as it comes standard seems... well.... stupid!

What kind of benchrest competition are you planning on doing? My deer rifle is a 7 STW. A 7 STW might be alright for 1000 yard competition if it's built in a 16.5 or 17 pound rifle depending upon what organization you are planning to compete. My deer rifle weighs 10 pounds and has a decelerator pad. I wouldn't think of competing with it as it's not made for competition. A competition rifle will have a 3" wide forend and will be made to ride on sandbags. There are better cartridges to use for competition. The first thing I'd do is look at who makes brass for the cartridge that you're wanting to use. I look to see if Lapua makes brass for it. That's the first thing that I look for when picking a competition cartridge or what to build for a competition rifle whether I shoot it or not. For 600 to 1000 yard competition, I'd look at the 6 BR case if winds are light where you compete, 6x47 Lapua, 6.5x47 Lapua, 6.5x.284, or some of the .300 magnums if the wind is heavy.

Bad choice for this competition...

You are shooting A 7mmSTW GROW UP. Recoil Is part of the cartridge:eek:. If you can't handle the HEAT GET OUT OF THE KITCHEN. And as Long range goes IT'S MILD

My kitchen is not hot and neither is the 7 STW in the winners circle.

If your talking point blank BR, 100/200/300 yds (which this sub-forum mainly deals with):
You could forego the warm-up and sighters, then you'll only be beat-up 25 times......which would be slightly less stupid than actually trying to win with this ill-suited cartridge:rolleyes:

Ram,
7mm STW is my go to long range deer rifle, but it ain't a 1000 yard bench rest winner, 300 in Mag, 338 Lapua Mag, check the equipment list and go from there,,,,,,,,,, now about the recoil,,,,,,,man up,,,,,,,, and if that don't work get yourself a Lynwood Harrell Muzzlebrake and tame that beast!!

the wind is my friend,,,,,,,,,, and 7 STW is my favorite cartridge,,,
