Anyone got the part number for the 3-M brand tape thats been used for stock tape. I tried a search but I couldn't find anything on this new forum.
I remember a post about this stuff some time ago, it was supposed to be better or lots cheaper than the stuff Sinclair sells and I'm gonna put it on several rifles so I thought it would be worth checking into.
Thanks

I have found this company to be a great source for stock tape: http://cshyde.thomasnet.com/category/tapes-with-psa?. They will cut rolls to the size and length you want. I use #19-5A, cut to 5 inches wide by "5 yards" long. Cost was around $26.00. #19-5A has an acrylic adhesive which holds up better in heat versus a rubber adhesive. I make sure I clean my stock area with soap and water to get all the dirt and oil off it before I apply the tape. I have a good finish on my stocks so the soap and water has no effect on the surface.

As I mentioned, the tape that I buy is around $26.00 for a roll 5 inches X 5 yards or 5" X 180" or 36 pieces of 5" X 5" which equates to 72 cents each. [180" divided by 5" = 36. $26.00 divided by 36 = .72]. 72 cents a sheet is inexpensive. 36 pieces too many ??? Order a shorter roll.

CS Hyde was also very helpful when I was researching tape and sent me four samples. I dealt with Sheridan O'Brien who I believe is one of the company's principals. As I recall the conversation she also does some shooting and understood the application. Hope you find exactly what you're looking for. CS Hyde's number is 1-800-461-4161. Hope this helps. Art :)

when it comes to

stock tape, unless you are buying a lifetime supply in your '3o's, you are better off buying from someone who sells it ready to go. I have true Teflon ready to go.

Virg,

If you can swallow that $.72 100+ times over, then I guess you are going to buy a SMALL roll of tape from Hyde. Otherwise don't figure your prices based on a 1 time issue. There is an investment of capital involved here that most fol;ks NEVER stop to think about. Yes, I, and others, make a profit on things like tape and cleaning solvents, and patches. This is bad how?

Thanks

I also appreciate the info ...I will also call after this weekend .Since I have several Bench Guns that could use Stock Tape . I'll Gladly pay the $26 for a roll instead of $12 for a couple pieces .

VINCE, If you don't need 36 pieces, or, if you need more, you can always order a roll that will accommodate your needs. Art

The last time I ordered Stock Tape, I order a few extra. When I got ready to use it on a newly painter stock, it would not stick, The glue just disappeared.

Fred: Who did you order it from? And, what type of adhesive was it? See my long response above for a note on adhesives. Art

I talked to Sheriden O'Brien yesterday, she's sending me 4 samples. I tried to just order the stuff but she says the adhesive is much stronger than most stock tape & she wants me to check it out first to be sure it wont lift the finish if I take it off someday.
Sorry, David.
I agree with supporting the industry to some degree but $1.50 a rifle compared to $12.00?
Its like bolt grease, I've used John Deere Polyurea High Pressure grease on all my rifles for a year now( with no sign of galling) at a cost of $3.00 a tube.
I'm talking a full size grease tube, fits right into my Lincoln grease gun that I use for my lawn mower my pick-up and now my BAT. I just squirt some out in a little jar that once held a free sample of JB and keep it in my range box.
I'm not out to play cut throat, I'm just using good sense.
