Stiller Viper drop port

I have one of these Aluminum actions glued in a McMillian Edge stock that needs to be removed.
Heat will do the trick.
Could have sworn I read somewhere that the steel barrel/lug body portion is epoxied into the Aluminum frame.
If thats correct I'm assuming theres some tricks to removing this action without breaking that bond between steel and Aluminum.
Help a fool not do something foolish. It will be your good deed for the day:D Thnx

Use a regular household clothing iron. I clamp the rifle in a vise, by the barrel. Remove the scope and rings and place the iron on the scope rail. With the iron on high it takes about 10-20 minutes to soften the epoxy bedding, and a little(!) downward pressure on the forearm of the stock should pop it loose and let it drop right off.

I used an infrared thermometer and the front of the action never got over about 170*F. Stiller's instructions say the bond inside the receiver is good for 350*F. See #4 in this link.

Thanks for the good deed Jerry, Right from Stillers site Doh!!

My next line of questioning will be about reglueing it in. I've done several standard pillar bed actions but thats easy as you can rmove them and clean up the excess.
This will require a little more finesse. Gonna investigate online and see how many answers I can find for myself. Thanks again.

A side note, thanks to our overseeing government, most current clothes irons will not get hot enough to break the bond. At least some WallyWorld sell now will not break the bond of Devcon F.

Check out garage sales and flea markets. Bet you can find a number of OLD irons, like the one I absconded with from my wife when I bought her a new one a number of years ago.
