I want to start testing with 8208XBR in my 6ppc. Normally shoot around 28.8grs. of N133. Looking for a good starting point with 66gr. bullets.

I receintly started shooting 8208xbr and it shot grain for grain w/n133. It shot the same exact speed with my crony and same bullet pattern. It seems to be little dirty powder when cleaning the gun.

Thanks for the help. It seems several folks have commented about being a little dirty compared to 133. I also hear it's more stable though.

The three lots of XBR I have tested, by weight, was much slower than 133/07. However, loading it volumetrically, it is real close to 1133. XBR has a higher bulk-density (weight per unit volume) than 133. .

I.E. say it takes 54 clicks of V133 to weigh 29.2, then 54 clicks of XBR which will weigh about30.2, and come up to the same place in the case neck, the velocities will be close to each other.

XBR is much more temperature stable than V133, and there is a new/improved benchrest powder coming from Hodgdon. These "new age" powder products which is spherical powder technology in stick powder form are very temperature insensitive.

According to Ron Reiber, Product Manager of Hodgdon Powder, the 5 lots of XBR test within 25 fps of each other and within about 30 fps in their test labs in ranges from about 20F through 110F.

Using XBR in a 6PPC with the light bullets I find that the starting load seems to be "as much as you can get in the case". Its a bit slow.

Start with 30.4 with at least a 6in drop tube with a small hole, drop slow and start with that. I think you will find that a good starting point.

XBR shoots great at 35 degrees or less. It's my winter powder......
But, like everyone else said. Load em' and shoot em'.
Got a new barrel for my M1 .30-06. I was low on IMR-4064. So I used some XBR. WOW. 8 in the 10 ring. And 2 bulls. 100y.
Just playing around. Haven't had the chance to do anymore playing around.....
