Start load 22 BR Norma with light bullets

Looking for a starting point for 50-55 gr bullets with a 22 inch Douglas barrel with 12 twist. Only used for 100 yd paper shooting off a bench. The rifle is a 22 BR Norma built by Mickey Coleman.

I can find load data for 22 BR Remingoton but I'm assuming that's not directly applicable to my rifle which uses the longer Lapua 6mmBR brass resized to 22 BR Norma dimensions (case length about 1.56 not the Remington 1.52). I fire-formed the cases in this rifle using 28 gr of Benchmark and a 52 gr Hornady.

I have H-322 on hand along with Benchmark and I usually stock Varget but I'm out now.

I posted a similar request for data on the 6mmBR forum.

Thanks!

The difference is in neck length, not body length. Like all projects be careful, work slowly and carefully.

Go to 6mmbr.com,

specifically <http://www.6mmbr.com/22BR.html>. There's good info there. That's where I started.

As is stated above, be cautious. You may well want to read the warning at the bottom of the page.

Good luck,

Glen

So folks are using the load data (with the usual caveats) for the 22 BR Remington? Okay, that sounds like a good place.

Thanks!

I use 52 or 53 gr Sierras in mine with 27.5 grains of H322 and a Fed 205M primer. It is a very mild load but it shoots very well.
My gun never liked the hotter loads.

Thanks. I will make a note of that load. None of my guns except one pistol ever liked the hotter loads as far as accuracy went. Maybe it was me? Who knows, but I like it when they are less expensive to feed! <g>

I have about 4k Fed 205M primers, and also about 2k Winchester Small River. I like the Federal's except I press them into the case using an old Lee "auto-prime" and that big Federal primer tray is so large it won't load easily. For that reason I use the WSR with it's smaller primer container for routine reloading, like for my Mini-14 and the like. To be honest I've never done a test to see if there is much difference between the WSR or Fed or CCI or Remington; at least not at my skill level, which is pretty average. I don't complete, but the group sizes I read about here make me think, at best, I am an average shot.

.............

Everybody on planet earth hates the Federal primer trays...........

I wonder why they continue producing them. I personally like the shinny primers like the Federal just because I think they look "right". But those primer trays are sure a pain!

I love my 22BR.

With a BR quality 50-52 gr. flatbase bullet (BIB, Berger, etc.) it will shoot honest .250-ish five shot groups @ 3600+ with a bit over 31.0 gr. of Benchmark. For predator hunting, I use a 40 gr. Nosler BTip @ a skosh over 4,000 with around 33.0 of Benchmark with accuracy in the low .3's. This is from a hunting type rig with a Lilja sporter barrel twisted 1:14, a 1.5 lb. trigger and a mid range variable scope.

22BR's are the shizzle.......

Thank you Al. I'll take a look at that load with Benchmark. I have a bit of it left. I'm also hoping to pick up some Varget soon as I use that a lot with other calibers and it's a handy powder.
