Stainless action coatings

I am really taken by the feel and appearance of the Blued chrome moly BAT actions i have and i am wondering if there is anything i can do to one of my stainless bat actions to give it the appearance and feel of these chrome moly actions i have. I Have been doing a little reading on this and about all i can find is a finish called rogaurd. Looks pretty good but i just wonder if there is anything else. What i want it my stainless action to have a deep dark almost black shinny or somewhat reflective finish. Not a matte dull finish. Also would some of these finished add any lubricity to the feel and function of a stainless action with out adding any thickness to the dementions of the action. Does anything come to any of your fellas minds here? Of course my action is fine just the way it is but i really like the look of the BAT bluing process on the chrome moly actions. thanks Lee

Lee,

I have 2 stainless barrels, ( 1 action) done by "Black Ice Coating", in Utah. had mine done in teflon, black. did a great job, & looks good. now these are varmint/hunting rifles, no BR. Give Black Ice a call. talk to Lee.

There is a bluing process that works on some stainless. I don't know who does the process.

Rogard is a BLACK coating, it is not blue. It is a nice coating, however. A very popular one with Robar complanies is to Rogard the barreled action and NP3 plate the bolt. It is like built in lubrication. As tight as a BAT is, you better call Bruce and make sure there is enough tolerance for whatever coating you want to add to his action. I saw a really tight action get tied up by Cerakote!

Another option would be TiAlN. Unlike a painted surface, TiAlN will last forever.

I havent had the chance to see anything that has been Melonite coated. The truth is, I would like for my stainless bat action to have a nice deep dark rich finish but it really isnt important. Sometimes my wants get the best of me and when i sit and think about things a little i soon realize i would probably be better off buy more Bullets or brass ar targets or whatever else rather than spending 100 bucks just so i can have a little eye appeal. I may still have this done, but i think i will wait until the right opportunity presents itself. I have been doing some reading on this, as i like to read and there are a few different options a guy could go with. the problem is not actually being able to see how one product will look compared to another in person. I would really like to see a final product with my own two eyes before i commit to something and spend the unnecessary cash! I need to get a truck box built, so that has my number 1 priority at the moment.LOL!!! Thanks Lee

skeetlee, Take a look at Falcon Gun Finishing. Owner Jeff Sternad. I have 2 Nesika actions that he has done for me over the years. They are both like you want, a deep gloss black finish. I have hunted with these rifles for years, and the finish holds up well. The last work he did for me was a couple of sets of rings and bases from Near Mfg. One set black, and the other set was done to match a stainless Remington action in the extreme finish.

He's easy to deal with, but is in Montana. Take care, Waverly
