St Louis shoot next weekend.

I am getting geared up for my first registered benchrest shoot next weekend in St Louis. It looks like its going to be cold, but i dont care, as i have a terrible case of cabin fever. I was just wondering if anyone else around here were planning on attending?
I dont expect to do real well as i havent gotten but one chance to shoot my ppc this winter. My wife works weekends so i hang out at home with my little girls, plus the weather this winter has been tough! I am going to the shoot kinda by the seat of my pants. I dont have a load for my rifle. I am hoping something like 28.8gr of N133 with a Bruno Double O FB bullet sitting in the lands will work? We are going to try and get there a little early so i can shoot a little before the match starts. I hate not being prepared, but at least for this shoot i am just ready to get out and do a little shooting and a lot of visiting with fellow shooters. I cant hardly wait!!! Hope to see you there! Pre Match Jitters

Skeetlee It's great to see that your going to get your feet wet in a registered match,so here's a little information for you to digest.
1. even if you show up at sunrise the morning of the match you will not have an opportunity to tune your rifle. typically the match director can shoot a warmup match, but they usually just add time to the first match!
2 If you want to get load development done you need to be there on Friday as the range's where we shoot are typically open a day or 2 before the match for just such purpose's. Call Ron Hoehn and he will let you know what to expect.
3 Are you going to shoot both the Light and Heavy matches?
Sometimes after they set the targets up for 200 yds saturday some match directors open the range for practice.

Good luck
Oh,by the way let me know how you do with your tile with the wind chart, cause between watching flags and looking at your little chart you will probably lose track of whats really happening with the wind!

More Powder

just a suggestion;)
good luck & good shooting
jim

I was under the impression that i would have a chance to shoot early sat morning? I sure hope so!! LOL!! I have the wind chart memorised so it wont even be on the bench! LOL!!!! I am excited and i would like to shoot the hole match but we will just have to see. Thanks fellas! Lee

Lee,

I've shot this match before. St. Louis will typically have the range open until around a half hour before match begins to get targets in place. I've always checked loads in the morning. Maybe they will do things differently this year so call Ron at (636) 745-8144, he will know for sure. Start time is 1030 hrs.

Perspective from a fellow newbie: Forget the wind chart. Watch the flags, shoot the sighter and use the available time and ammo to learn.

St. Louis Match this weekend...

Hi Girls & Guys,
I will guarantee temperatures of 70-72 and gentle winds out of the north at 2-3 mph! (That's in the loading area/Club house, and the winds are out of the heating ducts located in the ceiling!) Seriously, the February match can be one of the best attended as everyone want to shoot! Could be 35 to 40 degrees outside, but we have the nice warm club house for everyone to load in.
The gates will be open on Friday morning for practice, and you can shoot on Saturday morning until about 90 minutes before the match starts. Start time on Saturday is 10:30 AM, so you can practice until about 9:00 AM.
We need about 90 minutes to set up the range and set flags.
Hope to see you all here on Saturday.
Need any more information, please feel free to call me at 636-745-8144.
Ron Hoehn
PS: We have a "sign-in-sheet" that needs to be signed when you get here, so please see me, Jessie Williams or Larry Scharnhorst before you start practicing. Thank you.
Ron

You will recognize Larry Scharnhorst as he will be wearing the same clothes he had on at the Nationals last year and holding a cardboard sign for gas money donations to help him get back home after the shoot, or he will have to stay at Rons house till his wife sends a money order.:p

Hope you all have a good shoot, stay warm its in the 80's here today in Palm Desert, CAlif.)chill(

Thanks for the heads up about Larry

Fellas i just thought of something, and i may be screwed. I havent joined the association yet. My shooting buddy told me to do this last week and i slipped my thoughts. I had another good friend and a shooter tell me he thinks i can pay my dues at the shoot. I am not real sure what i should do. I need a phone number i guess so i can see whats up. Can anyone help me with this? Thanks Lee

what a great day to shoot here in st Louis today. There was a decent turnout and the weather was the best it has been all winter. 200 yards tomorrow should be a lot of fun!! Lee

No snow this weekend. Saturday was a very nice day and warmer than any day this winter. Sunday was a tough day with lots of rain! This was my first registered shoot and i had a great time and met a lot of good folks. very enjoyable!! Lee

What did you learn

Skeetlee,
Well could you give a few details, like was it as easy as you expected or harder than you expected, how was your agg.? Did you get a handle on the tune for your rifle? Did you load at the range or go pre-Loaded? Did you utilize your own flags or did you shoot over someone elses flags. Was there gear that you wish you had taken or perhaps some that you could have done without? Your generally pretty chatty but seem to be a bit closed lip, so whats up with that?
