Southbend 10" question

That is a Heavy 10 (10L) , however it is on a shop built stand, rather than one of the South Bend factory stands it would have originally shipped with.

It is an earlier single lever Heavy 10. Nothing at all wrong with that. Looks like it has a D1-4 spindle nose and I'm not sure that option was available at that time. Looking on the wall are some faceplates and they don't :appear" to be D1-4 items.

More pictures would help and a list of what is included (tooling, attachments, etc). Looks like, also, that it has been repainted. Thats OK too but it might be covering wear.

Thats a new looking 4-jaw chuck, and that is about $250-$600 depending on the brand.

Later- zooming up on the one photo I can't tell if what I am seeing is a D1-4 cam or if it is a chuck adapter bolt head????

They have the older style single tumbler gear box and to me it looks like the have threaded spindle noses. I do not see any cam locks on the mounting plate. They should have 1 3/8" spindle bore. They do have the short bed and I do not see a bed taper as would be included on the tool room model. Those were made in 10" 1"collet, 13" and up. They will make good lathes for someone if the beds are not too worn.

Well...I was too late...he sold it. I was actually the second caller last evening and asked a few questions about it and the guy was clueless. I had him measure the spindle bore diameter and he said it was under an inch which threw me off. I was maybe thinking someone rebuilt it using a smaller spindle. By looking at the one pic...it appears its larger. He used a tape measure and I believe he measured wrong. He probably stuck the entire tape measure hook in the ID then read it...and there went .375" error! Too bad I didn't know more about the heavy 10 when I first called....I could have had everyhing for $800. Oh well...
