I'd like to get into AGBR, and I have been to the Airgun Benchrest and read all I can.

Where is my next step for info?

Questions I have are:

1) What are most people shooting gun-wise?
2) Are there any internet "postal" matches for this?
3) I'd like to practice over the winter inside. Is there a way I can reduce the targets?

Thanks!

nickswin,

Thanks, I actually came across those matches, but didn't know if it was OK for someone from the US to participate(?).

Good pick of gun, any thoughts on a scope?

Thanks!

Hello thundergun

There are lots of rifles capable of shooting well and of coarse it depends on which class you want to shoot in. I personally have been shooting an Beeman R7 that I really enjoy in the Springer class and have a Walter 200LG for match class. In unlimited I shoot a AA100 in a shortened McMillian BR stock.

I have not organized any postal matches but have had guys shoot targets in South Korea, Austrialia, Czeck rep and Finland.

You can get official targets directly from AirgunBenchrest or download practice target from the website (left side of the home page)

Where do you live? Do you have a rifle already in mind? Indoor matches are allowed and there's plenty of shooting time still available this year.

You will be welcome to shoot in the postal league I have been shooting it since 2006. Any good scope 6-24x50 should be okay.

You will need to look on the UKBR22 website for rules about the air rifles and postal leagues. The next, Winter, league starts around October for 6 months and then the summer postal starts. This will start you off as I think that there are also matches happening in the US. The postal involves people from all around the world so you are gauging yourself against a lot of people.

We just had a world rimfire and air rifle benchrest championship in Milan. Air rifle will be a part of things in the future.
The Air Arms are very good rifles, made about 20 miles from me in fact in the UK.
Other makes like Steyr and Anschutz are good, bit look at the class you want to shoot in to match rifle to competition. I used a Steyr LG110 for the world championship in both the LV (Hunter) and Unlimited B classes. Good rifle.

If you want the most accurate springer they are in this order:
Feinwerkbau 300S
Air Arms Pro Sport
Air Arms TX 200
Springers are very hold sensitive to be accurate shot after shot. The PCP guns are not.

Try to stay away from break barrel guns. If you want to spend some big bucks and get into airguns seriously then Pre-charged Pneumatic is the way to go. I have or have had all the high dollar PCP's and I have found the Steyr's are the most accurate.
I currently have a Steyr LG110 -HP in .22. Rapids are pretty accurate, and the Weirauch HW100 in either caliber is a fine benchrest gun because of the German quality and the configuration of the stock.
FX also makes some accurate rifles but they are finicky and parts are hard to find sometimes. I have about six FX guns and it seems like I'm always working at least one and have parts ordered year round.
Crossman makes a good entry level PCP that only has a 2,000 working pressure instead of 3,000 PSI plus on all other PCP's. I have my own compressor and carbon fiber tanks but they are not cheap.
The Crossman Discovery comes with a pump and is very easy to pump to only 2,000 PSI. You can get one with a pump for about $400.00 new.
The world of PCP rifles and pistol's is endless so it all comes down to your budget. Quality airguns can easily surpass the price of a rimfire or centerfire custom benchrest gun.

Here are just a few of my airguns. Most are custom.

where do the ssp rifles fit into BR. will they compete with the pcp rifles.

I don't shoot benchrest with my airguns but I can tell you that PCP rifles are much more accurate and consistent than a spring rifle. The PCP's are more expensive plus you have to buy the equipment to charge them whether it be a scuba tank, a compressor, or both.

If I was going to start shooting airgun benchrest I would get a .177 Benjamin Discovery that comes with a pump. You get everything you need for about $400.00 bucks and it will outshoot a springer.
A 10 meter olympic springer is even more expensive than a PCP but that's not practical to just buy one for BR competition.

Go to this link to shop and get a ton of information:

I'm sorry that I did not answer your question. The different designs of air guns are in different classes so you would not have to shoot a PCP against a springer. At least that's they way the rules appear.

Yes, they (Benjamin Discovery) shoot very well for the money. The biggest plus is they only have to be pumped up to 2000 psi instead of 3000 psi like all the rest. The pump you get with the rifle is a high quality piece and is easy to use. I have some expensive PCP's but I find myself shooting the Disco just as much and having just as much fun too.

after checking things out I didn't want a springer but what about the single stroke pneumatic like the FWB 600 I've seen them used for 7-$800. no recoil with them but in a match will that single stroke for each shot waste to much time

I have two of them. Great rifles. Only thing is they are made for Olympic 10 meter competition. You can find nice ones in the $600.00 range but they are very limited in their power.
They usually shoot about 600 FPS and I can rebuild them to do about 740 FPS. They are great rifles for indoor IHMSA and NRA airgun silhouette. They weigh about 10 pounds.
